Excess sugar consumption is a major driver of weight gain and can significantly impact your long-term health. As we mark Sugar Awareness Week, it’s a crucial time to think about the 'hidden' sugars in your daily diet—and they don't always appear as 'sugar' on the ingredients list!

Sugar can be added in many forms (like dextrose, maltose, or syrups). Learning to identify these different names is a vital first step in controlling your intake for a healthier life.

We focus on more than just weight loss; we aim for a sustainable, healthier lifestyle. Understanding and controlling your sugar intake is a vital step toward achieving lasting results, whether through surgical weight loss options or tailored dietary plans with our dietician, Sarah.

For consultations or more information about weight loss surgery, or to book an appointment with our dietitian, please call (02) 4380 8404.

This World Diabetes Day, I want to highlight an undeniable fact: excess weight and Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) are deeply connected, driven by issues with the body’s metabolism. Weight loss surgery is a powerful tool to interrupt this cycle and drive T2D into remission.

For some people who have had type 2 diabetes for less than 7 years, surgery is likely to cause diabetic remission and normalise blood sugar levels.

If you have had diabetes for longer than 7 years, sometimes surgery can cause diabetic remission, but is more likely to lead to decreased need for tablets or insulin.

Want to explore if you're suitable candidate for weight loss surgery? Call us at (02) 4380 8404 for a consultation with Dr Hamer.

You can also book an appointment with our Dietitian, Sarah, with or without a GP referral and no need to be a patient of Dr Hamer.

November is Stomach Cancer Awareness Month, also known as Gastric Cancer Awareness Month, a crucial time to spotlight a disease that is often diagnosed too late.

Stomach cancer (or gastric cancer) can be a quiet disease. Its early symptoms are often mistaken for common indigestion or reflux.

If you experience any of these symptoms, please do not dismiss it. A thorough evaluation can make all the difference. If you have a family history or are concerned about your personal risk, consult with your GP. Early diagnosis drastically improves treatment outcomes.

For consultations with Dr Peter Hamer, book an appointment by calling (02) 4380 8404.

If you've developed a hernia that you believe is the result of your work duties, you may be able to have your hernia fixed through Workers Compensation (in NSW, this is managed by icare).

Fixing your work-related hernia through this system allows you to access the private hospital system, often resulting in much shorter waiting times compared to the public system.

Dr Peter Hamer is happy to perform your hernia repair under the workers compensation scheme. However, this process does require prior approval from icare. Remember to report any work injury to your employer immediately—this is the first step!

Did you know the potential benefits of weight loss surgery go far beyond the scale? Many patients report a significant improvement in their sleep quality and a potential reduction in snoring.

This improvement often relates to Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA). For people with severe obesity, excess weight around the airway can cause breathing to repeatedly pause at night, leading to interrupted sleep, chronic fatigue, and long-term health risks.

Weight loss surgery is a recognised strategy in managing OSA. As substantial weight loss is achieved, the physical pressure on the airway can be relieved. Research indicates that surgery is associated with a high rate of significant improvement or resolution of OSA symptoms within the first year.

If you are struggling with sleep issues or fatigue, explore if weight loss surgery might be the solution for you. Book a consultation with Dr Peter Hamer today by calling (02) 4380 8404.

Gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy) is one of the most common keyhole operations we perform, and it's remarkably safe and effective.

The procedure involves making 4 to 5 small incisions in your belly wall. We detach the gallbladder from the bile duct and liver, then remove it. Sometimes, we perform an x-ray test (cholangiogram) during the surgery to ensure no gallstones have moved into the bile duct.

Most patients go home the same day or after just one night in the hospital.

Have questions about your gallstones or keyhole surgery? Book a consultation with Dr Peter Hamer today by calling (02) 4380 8404.

Weight loss surgery is so much more than your appearance—it's about reclaiming your health and vitality!

Many patients discover profound relief from serious conditions after surgery. Imagine reducing or even resolving the need for medications for Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol. Patients also see major improvements in obstructive sleep apnoea, fatty liver, PCOS, and even relief from certain Arthritis pains and urinary stress incontinence.

Beyond specific diagnoses, virtually everyone experiences a significant boost in energy and an increase in their life expectancy.

Ready to explore if weight loss surgery is right for you? Book an appointment with Dr Peter Hamer by calling (02) 4380 8404.
