Laminitis risk is closely linked to NSC intake.

NSC (Non-Structural Carbohydrates) refers to the portion of feed made up of sugars and starches - the rapidly digestible carbohydrates that provide quick energy.

In feed and forage analysis, NSC represents a combination of:
• WSC (Water Soluble Carbohydrates) – simple sugars
• Starch

While these nutrients can be beneficial for horses in hard work, excess NSC intake can contribute to metabolic disturbances, increasing the risk of conditions such as:

• Laminitis
• Insulin dysregulation

• PSSM
