Jupiter Health, Lakerlands, and Singleton are excited to announce that they now offer fully bulk-billed Mirena insertion services with Dr Aida Andrawis and Dr Huan Tom Sim

An IUD, or intrauterine device, is a form of birth control that is inserted into the uterus to prevent pregnancy. There are two main types of IUDs: hormonal and non-hormonal.

Hormonal IUDs contain the hormone progestin, which thickens cervical mucus, making it difficult for s***m to reach the egg. They also thin the lining of the uterus, making it less receptive to implantation. Hormonal IUDs can be effective for 3 to 7 years, depending on the brand.

Non-hormonal IUDs, on the other hand, are made of copper. The copper acts as a s***micide, damaging or killing s***m that come into contact with it. Non-hormonal IUDs can be effective for up to 10 years.

Both types of IUDs are highly effective at preventing pregnancy, with success rates of over 99%. They are also reversible, meaning that fertility returns soon after the device is removed.

**When is it?** Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month takes place every February in Australia.
**Purpose:** The month is dedicated to raising awareness about this often poorly understood disease. It aims to promote education regarding symptoms, advocate for increased research investment, and provide support for those affected. Ovarian cancer has one of the lowest survival rates among female cancers, primarily because there is no early detection test. Additionally, the symptoms are often vague, which can lead to late diagnosis.
**Symptoms:** Common symptoms can be non-specific and may be easily mistaken for other conditions like Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) or menopause. Key symptoms include:
- Persistent abdominal bloating
- Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly
- Abdominal or pelvic pain
- Frequent or urgent urination
- Changes in bowel habits (such as constipation or diarrhea)
- Significant fatigue or unexplained weight changes

We would like to welcome Dr Sarah Field to our Jupiter Health Lakelands and Singleton Family in January 2026. She will primarily work from Jupiter Health Singleton Clinic.

Dr Sarah graduated from the University of Tasmania in 2020.
After completing her formative years at the Royal Hobart Hospital, she has been travelling across Australia, working in a variety of hospitals, including Tweed Hospital, Townsville University Hospital, Royal Darwin Hospital, and Armadale Hospital. She is now settling in Western Australia to complete her GP training.
Special interests include: paediatric medicine and women's health.

We would like to welcome Dr Emily Pereira to our Jupiter Health Lakelands and Singleton Family in January 2026. She will primarily work from Jupiter Health Singleton Clinic. ☺️

Dr Emily graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Doctor of Medicine in 2019. She has gained broad clinical experience across metropolitan and regional hospitals in WA, spanning a wide range of specialties, including surgery, emergency medicine, infectious diseases, haematology, and palliative care. Emily recently completed her placement at Perth Children’s Hospital, where she gained valuable experience in paediatric medicine. She is currently working towards a Fellowship with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
Emily enjoys all aspects of general practice and is passionate about providing holistic, high-quality, and evidence-based care. She values taking the time to listen to her patients, explaining health issues clearly, and working collaboratively to support their individual health goals.

Outside of work, Dr Emily loves spending time with her husband and two cats. She enjoys participating in community park runs and playing the piano.
Emily welcomes patients of all ages and backgrounds and looks forward to supporting them in their ongoing health and well-being.
