🚨 Karratha Orange Alert Update 🚨

The Karratha region is currently under an ORANGE ALERT as advised by DFES.

At this stage, Help in Hand services are continuing as scheduled, including support for clients with ongoing care needs. We are closely monitoring conditions and will contact you directly if any changes to your supports are required.

🌀 What this means for you

An 🔸Orange Alert means you should now be actively preparing for a possible Red Alert (take shelter).

We encourage all clients and families to:
- Secure outdoor items and prepare your home
- Ensure you have enough food, water, and essential supplies
- Charge phones and devices
- Prepare medications and important documents
- Have a plan for where you will shelter

Launching Tomorrow at the IPWDA Expo — “Hands of Hope Christmas Gift of Support”

✨ Because everyone deserves a helping hand.

This Christmas, Help in Hand is opening nominations for our Hands of Hope Christmas Gift of Support — a heartfelt initiative created to give back to our community and walk beside someone who really needs it right now.

We will be gifting 15 hours of non-clinical in-home or community support to one individual or family who is doing it tough this season.
This may be:
• A parent needing an extra pair of hands
• Someone without formal supports
• A carer who never gets a break
• A person with disability who is under-supported
• Anyone in our community who could genuinely benefit from extra help

🌱 No NDIS plan is required to be nominated.
This is simply our way of giving back — no strings attached.

💟NDIS Safety Note:
This initiative is not an inducement, promotion, or marketing of NDIS-funded services.
It is a voluntary goodwill community initiative.
The support hours gifted are non-clinical, general assistance only, provided independently of any NDIS funding or existing plan — and are available to any community member regardless of ability, funding, or service provider.

✨ Nominations open TOMORROW at the free IPWDA Expo at REAP from 9-2. HIH stall (just look for the PINK 😉 )
Our team will have a simple form available for you to nominate someone who needs that little bit of extra support this Christmas.
We will review submissions with compassion and transparency, and announce the recipient before Christmas.

This year has been big.
Many people are carrying more than they talk about.

We’re thrilled to announce that our fleet just got bigger – literally! 🙌
HIH has welcomed a brand-new people mover to our team of modified vehicles.

This larger van is designed to make travel more accessible and comfortable, especially for those with powered wheelchairs that don’t always fit in smaller vans. Now, we can accommodate more people and a wider range of mobility needs – ensuring everyone gets where they need to go with ease. 💙

And guess what? This is just the beginning… more exciting changes are on the way! Stay tuned!

Great opportunity for you to have your say and assist with creating a positive inclusive result

The City of Karratha is inviting community members with lived experience with disability to submit an expression of interest to attend the Disability Inclusive Emergency Planning Forum (DIEP).

This forum is your chance to share your experiences, spark ideas, and help build safer, more inclusive emergency responses that leave nobody behind.

With limited spots, the forum will be held in an accessible venue in Karratha on Thursday 30 October from 9.30am to 3pm with morning tea and lunch provided.

We especially welcome people with lived experience of disability, carers and disability advocacy representatives.
