Climb On Occupational Therapy

Climb On Occupational Therapy To find out more about my service, send me an enquiry at claire@ClimbOnOT.com She made the change to paediatrics in 2017 and has never looked back.

Claire takes a developmental play-based approach to therapy, believing that therapy should provide children with experiences of joy and success. In the process of completing tailored play-based activities at the "just right" challenge level, children also progress up the developmental ladder and develop their sensory, motor, social, emotional and cognitive skills. Family involvement in sessions is strongly emphasized and Claire also facilitates regular family education meetings. This empowers family to be at the centre of the process and helps to transfer therapeutic recommendations into the home environment. Claire is especially passionate about working with children with sensory differences; particularly 0-5 year olds. Claire graduated from the University of Queensland in 2011 and has since worked as an Occupational Therapist across a variety of fields. In her spare time Claire can be found enjoying time at home with her husband and son, or hiking, climbing, biking or canyoning in the beautiful Blue Mountains.

The kids in our nature group program OT Gone Wild had a blast in the recent school holidays. Our child-led approach allowed all kinds of nature activities to unfold - digging up "the supreme king of rocks", hide and go seek in the ferns and rock scrambling, just to name a few - all driven by the kids' intrinsic motivation to learn, explore and play.

The kids also got many opportunities to practice organization of their belongings and their needs in the outdoors, to resolve disagreements within the play, to take on helping roles and to look out for their group members when someone was having a tough time. The beautiful thing to watch was how much the independence increased with these things over the 3 days!

We loved running OT Gone Wild again and can't wait for the next one in April. Send me an email if you're interested - claire@climbonot.com

I'm thrilled to officially announce my partnership with the Neurodiversity Hub in Katoomba! Kids have been loving the bright and fun sensory space, and the team, atmosphere and vision at the Hub is one that I'm proud to be a part of.

A sneak peek into an OT session… where children experience feelings of joy, connection and success alongside building their skills, in an environment rich with opportunities for sensory and movement activities. The power of play-based therapy!

Why the name “Climb On”?

In the rock climbing world the phrase “climb on” gives the signal that a climber can begin.

This small phrase conveys a spirit of encouragement, support and belief in the climber’s ability. This is the spirit I channel into my OT service.

Not to mention, there is plenty of climbing related play in sessions - crash mats, soft play pieces, swings - all for a child to “climb on” and explore!
