🌙 One week until Reclaim the Night 2025! 🌙

Join us next Friday, 7th November at Blue Mountains Theatre and Community Hub, Springwood for an evening of solidarity, rhythm, and resistance.

From 3PM the lawns come alive with activities and stalls, followed by a powerful Hands Heart & Feet drumming performance, rally full of powerful speakers, then protest march kicked off by Shimmy Mob.

After the march stick around for live music from The Typical Grrrl's and Madame Wu, who'll help us close the night in loud celebration!

💜 This is a free, inclusive, community event open to everyone who believes in ending gender-based violence. Please keep in mind that this event may be loud at times, so bring along noise-canceling headphones or earmuffs to reduce sensory overload.

On 23 October (tomorrow), union members across Australia will unite for a National Day of Action, rallying outside Australian Industry Group (AIG) offices to oppose extreme pay cut proposals targeting the disability and community services sector. 💪

The Australian Services Union (ASU) is the union for essential frontline community and disability workers, including your local Women's Health Centre.

ASU members are disability support workers, youth workers and refuge workers who care for the most vulnerable in our society.

But right now, our pay and conditions are under threat.

The Fair Work Commission (FWC) is reviewing the Award that sets pay and funding for community and disability workers. This is a critical moment - and big business lobby group Australian Industry Group (AIG) is using it to push for massive pay cuts.

Despite having little to no presence in the sector, AIG is demanding changes that would:
Slash wages for 73% of community and disability workers

Cutting pay for:
Disability Support Workers by $179/week
Sexual Assault Counsellors by $930/week
Case Managers by $554/week
Youth Workers by $315/week
Undo the Equal Pay victory, which lifted SCHADS wages by 23–45%

We’ve fought hard for Equal Pay and fair conditions. We won’t go backwards.

Slide 4: Why We Still March

💜 Today, Reclaim the Night remains a powerful statement: we deserve to live free from violence, fear, and blame.
In the Blue Mountains and beyond, we march for those who can’t, for those still silenced, and for a future where everyone feels safe anywhere, anytime.
✨ Bring your signs, your friends, and your voice Friday 7th November 2025, Blue Mountains Theatre & Community Hub, Springwood.

Together, we reclaim the night.

Slide 3: Reclaiming in Australia

The movement quickly spread to Australia, with marches held in Sydney and Perth in 1978 and Melbourne in 1979.

Born from the women’s liberation movement, Australian activists connected the fight for safety with the fight for bodily autonomy, contraception rights, and respect.

Decades later, those same demands still matter.

💜 Stand with us this November as the Blue Mountains community raises its voice for safety, equality and change Friday 7th November, Springwood.

Slide 2: The Movement Grows

🌍 Inspired by anti-rape marches across Europe, Reclaim the Night became a global protest against sexual violence and victim-blaming.
It was a declaration that the streets and our bodies belong to us.
From handmade banners to bold placards, generations of women have refused to be silenced or shamed for demanding safety.

💜 Walk with us this year as we honour that legacy: Friday 7th November, Blue Mountains Theatre & Community Hub, Springwood.
