Attending the Convergence of Rebellious Midwives in Sydney earlier this year reaffirmed for me how beautifully homebirth supports the physiology of birth and the power of minimal intervention.

There’s something really special about visiting families in their own home in those first days after birth.

Mum can stay rested, focus on self-care, and enjoy uninterrupted time bonding with her baby.

Babies absolutely love the beautiful sling when it comes to being weighed, it’s cozy, secure, and gentle, making check-ins calm and relaxed for everyone.

This beautiful sling was made by AKA , and it’s such a lovely way to make postpartum visits feel relaxed and personal.

A little look at the week that’s been (and an insight into what my life looks like when I’m not working as a midwife). The last picture is my new grandson 🩵

1. Off to Katanning for parts with my sidekick CC 🤍
2. Late-night harvest
3. Southern lights putting on a show ✨
4. Magic sunsets 🌌
5-7. Dinner drop-offs out in the paddock
8. A very special visit from my new grandson, Theo Benjamin, thank you Tessa and Coen 🩵

Whilst flowers and gifts for baby and mum may be nice, help with the practical side of parenting can really help reduce the stress and fatigue associated with having a brand new baby.

Some nice ideas are meal trains, help cleaning and folding washing, a coffee and breastfeeding snacks, running to the shops for food or chemist supplies, and even gift vouchers for a postpartum doula who can help with all of the above (such as Hayley from ✨)

When we nurture the mother, we nurture the baby too.

What was the most meaningful gift of support you received, or wish you’d had in those early days?
