Get ready now for severe weather in parts of the Great Southern

If you live in Albany, Esperance, Mount Barker, Jerramungup, Ravensthorpe and Walpole you need to get ready now for the severe weather coming tomorrow afternoon.

WHAT TO DO

Store or weigh down loose objects around your home like outdoor furniture that could be picked up and thrown by strong winds, causing damage or injury

Ensure your emergency kit is complete including a battery operated radio, torch, spare batteries and first aid kit

Ensure pets and animals are in a safe area

Move vehicles under cover

Boat owners should securely moor their boats

Campers should find safe shelter away from trees, powerlines, storm water drains and streams

Unplug electrical appliances and avoid using landline telephone if there is lightning.

If you are away from home contact family or friends to prepare your property.

The burning season will be open to allow burning without a permit to burn, from
17th April, 2023.
Please notify your Bushfire Brigade Fire Control Officer (or Heather - 0409881865), BEFORE lighting up, and advise what, when and where you will be burning. Please avoid smoke into wine grape growing locations. ONLY BURN WHEN THE WEATHER IS SAFE FOR BURNING.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises you to:
- Action your Bushfire Survival Plan now.
- Monitor the fire and weather situation through your local radio station,
www.emergency.wa.gov.au and www.bom.gov.au.
- Call 000 (Triple Zero) in an emergency.

For Tuesday 10 January:

Extreme Fire Danger is forecast for the following fire weather districts:
Central Wheat Belt, Inland Central West, Lower West Inland, Brockman, Blackwood, Arthur, Roe, Lakes, Stirling North and Stirling West

Weather Situation
Hot, dry, fresh and gusty east to northeasterly winds will tend northerly ahead of the passage of a trough bringing a fresh and gusty west to south westerly wind change through the Central West early afternoon, and extending east through the South West Land Division and Central Wheat Belt during the afternoon and evening. Conditions are expected to generate extreme fire dangers over these districts with isolated thunderstorms expected ahead of and around the trough, with little if any rainfall, posing a risk of dry lightning.
