Sharing a post from last year that might be useful to anyone who is feeling overwhelm or anxiety creeping in as we approach the week of Christmas.
Setting boundaries, no matter how big or small, is a necessary act of self-care 🫶🏼
Let us know if you plan to try any of these tips, or share what you do to help you manage during the ‘silly season’ ⬇️

The ‘silly season’ can often be stressful and overwhelming with the pressure to meet social expectations, manage family dynamics, and balance holiday commitments.

By establishing clear boundaries, you create space to recharge and protect your well-being.

Communicating your needs with loved ones in a respectful way can help alleviate feelings of guilt or anxiety, allowing you to enjoy the season on your terms and prioritize what truly matters to you.

Here are some boundary-setting ideas:
⭐️ Saying No to attending an event or extra commitments that feel overwhelming
⭐️ Not engaging in conversations that make you feel uncomfortable, or obligated to answer invasive or personal questions
⭐️ Letting someone know that it’s not ok for them to comment on your appearance or weight
⭐️ Saying no if you don’t feel like drinking alcohol
⭐️ Not feeling obligated to overindulge in gift-giving

Setting boundaries doesn’t make you a bad person. It’s helping to establish mutual respect. Be firm but kind in your approach and communicate clearly using statements such as “I need” and “I feel”. Advocating for yourself ensures that you feel comfortable too.

Our Story

The Glow Centre is a private allied health practice in Kenmore, in Brisbane’s western suburbs. The Glow Centre was originally established in 2013 as Melissa Kent Psychology, by clinical psychologist Melissa Kent in Melbourne, Victoria. Melissa and the practice relocated to Brisbane in 2016. The practice has grown steadily since then, establishing a reputation for excellence in building relationships with clients and other services in the community, and achieving excellent outcomes for its clients.

The Glow Centre offers allied health services including psychology and psychiatry, as well as support groups for clients, with the aim of helping people find their glow after whatever storm life has thrown at them.
