🎉✨ You’re in! Welcome to Optometry at UNSW ✨🎉

Congratulations on your university offer! The UNSW School of Optometry and Vision Science is beyond excited to welcome all first-year 2026 students to our School Welcome during O-Week — your first taste of uni life and the start of something special.

This is the day you go from not knowing anyone to “see you next class.”

What’s happening? 👀🎉

🎤 Official School Welcome – Meet the School staff and hear what to expect from your optometry journey.
👣 Guided School Tours – Explore the clinic, labs, and study spaces in small groups, led by our friendly 4th-year Peer Mentors.
🌭 Sausage Sizzle + Prizes – After the welcome and tours, your Peer Mentors will bring you back to the Physics Lawn (outside the Optometry Clinic) for a delicious sausage sizzle, fun prizes, and a chance to hang out with your new cohort.

Starting uni can feel overwhelming — but you won’t be doing it alone. Our Peer Mentoring Program places you into small groups of first-year students, each guided by supportive 4th-year optometry leaders. It’s a great way to make friends, ask questions, and feel supported throughout your first term.

A huge thank you to HEINE for running our recent Munch & Learn workshop! 👓✨

Our students had a fantastic opportunity to get hands on with essential tools like the BIO, direct ophthalmoscope, and retinoscope, while picking up practical clinical tips from Dr. William Yates.

Sessions like these are all about building confidence, refining clinical skills, and preparing for real-life patient care. Thank you to everyone who attended and made the event such a success!
