Even turtles enjoy the benefits of acupuncture

A sea turtle that arrived at the National Aquarium unable to fully open its mouth to feed itself is on the mend after receiving acupuncture, among other innovative treatments, from the Aquarium’s Animal Health and Rescue teams.

☀️☀SUMMER = YANG SEASON☀️☀️

Summer is here! The most Yang season from the Chinese Medicine point of view. It’s a time of growth and expansion, expression, fertility and abundance.

Summer is the season that can exacerbate heat and fire patterns like:

- Red complexion
- Insomnia
- Palpitations
- Irritability, anxiety, restlessness
- Depression or mania

If you are feeling out of balance, acupuncture treatments can balance your Yang, Qi and blood, so you can enjoy this beautiful season.

Tips to stay healthy during the next three months:

- It’s the perfect time to wake up earlier and do activities that bring you joy. 🏄‍♀️
- Try to rest indoors at midday or when the heat is at its peak. Take a refreshing shower or swim. 🏊‍♀️
- Socialise and nourish connections with friends and family. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦
- To avoid the heat impact your body: drink plenty of water, slow down, and relax to recover your energy. 💧
- Enjoy foods that soothe and aid in cooling the body like: apples 🍏, lemons 🍋, oranges 🍊, tangerine 🍊, kiwi 🥝, watermelon 🍉, pear 🍐, pineapple 🍍, cucumber 🥒, spinach 🌿, tomatoes 🍅, yogurt 🐄, wheat 🍞, barley 🌾, mint 🥬, coriander ☘️.

Avoid: Excessively spicy foods 🌶️ and too much ice cream 🍨 can cause the digestive system to slow down.

FAQ: DO NEEDLES HURT?

In today’s post I wanted to address a common question I get asked frequently: Do needles hurt?

This will surprise a lot of people that have never tried acupuncture but acupuncture doesn’t need to be painful.

After observing a variety of acupuncturists in China, I realised that every practitioner develops their own technique.

At Vital Well we use the thinnest needless on the market and the length and width of the needle depends on the area of the body we are treating for the benefit of our patient’s comfort. Patients’ comfort is our main priority because if you are relaxed during treatment, we can do a better job at balancing your energy. For this reason we will do whatever it takes to minimise discomfort as much as possible.

Naturally, the body has some areas that are more sensitive than others. In those areas, it is normal to feel a little bit of a sting at the moment of insertion but this discomfort lasts less than a tiny second!

Once you have all the necessary needles in place, you should feel very relaxed. Some of my patients even fall asleep while the needles do their thing!

TREATMENT IN TIMES OF COVID 🤪
In the current climate, it’s only natural you may have concerns around hygiene, but rest assured the health and safety of our patients remains our top priority. We are following strict health and hygiene protocols, not quite as extreme as the ones on the video though 🤣🤣🤣

MOXIBUSTION

Moxibustion is a treatment method that is widely used in China and Japan. Moxawool is refined from the mugwort plant (Artemis vulgaris).

Acupuncture and moxibustion are key methods practiced at the Vital Well clinic. There are two ways to use moxa, directly on the skin or through a needle. I often use both.

Both of these techniques increase circulation, promote healing and have a general relaxing effect. Moxibustion is the perfect complement to acupuncture.

At Vital Well we use the extra pure Wakakusa grade moxa punk variety to warm up the needles and use only the premium gold variety, which is highly refined, for direct contact with the skin.

Moxibustion helps treat chronic disease, dizziness and/or faintness, general feelings of weakness, colds, external soreness on the muscles or joints, chronic diarrhea, low libido, infertility, depression symptoms, and it’s effective at enhancing the immune system.

Most of the patients feel a comfortable warm and a pleasant aroma.

ALLEVIATING ABDOMINAL PAIN IN BABIES AND CHILDREN (FROM HOME)

The clinical manifestations of abdominal pain are complex and can be caused by a multitude of reasons. If your baby has any abdominal pain or health issues, you should speak with their doctor first.

Due to the immaturity of the digestive system in babies, the function of the stomach is weak. Then the retention of dairy food is one of the main factors, causing fullness in the abdomen that can lead to:

🔶Gas
🔶 Cramps
🔶 Colic
🔶 Constipation

Pediatric Tuina is a therapeutic massage applied to specific points and locations on the child’s body surface.
Traditional Pediatric Tuina is mainly applied to children under six. Pediatric Tuina can have wonderful healing effects with some diseases, even better than herbs and acupuncture.

Here are four useful Tuina manipulations that parents can apply on the hand of the baby or toddler to harmonize the stomach. These exercises help with fullness and alleviate pain. For this purpose use your child’s left hand. Do these exercises daily and repeat the movements for 1.5 min for babies, and 3 mins minutes for toddlers in each position.

Use talcum powder to lubricate the baby hands that allow the movement to be more soft and fluid. Clean your child’s hand once you are done.

👍 PIJING: Using your thumb, apply pressure to your child’s thumb.
Follow a line pushing between the base of the child’s thumb towards the tip of the finger and back to the base. Like a two way street.

👍 BANMEN: Using your thumb, apply pressure to the metacarpal bone along your child’s thumb.
On the palmar side, exert small rotation from the base of the thumb along the metacarpal bone and going back in the opposite direction. Like a two way street.

☝️ DACHANGJING: Using your thumb, apply pressure to your child’s index finger thumb.
Support the kid’s index finger in your hand and let your thumb move from the base to the tip of the index finger.

✋ NEIBAGUA: Using three fingers, index, middle and ring fingers, apply pressure on your child’s palm centre.
Draw a circle with your fingers applying soft pressure in your child’s palm.

Always communicate with your baby during the therapeutic massage in a playful way or take advantage and do these exercises while the baby is sleeping.

Hope these tips are useful!

Yoly.
