🌍 It’s World Antimicrobial Awareness Week!

This year’s theme from the World Health Organisation is:
β€œAct: Now: Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future.”

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is one of the biggest global health challenges of our time. Every time antibiotics are used incorrectly or unnecessarily, we give resistant bacteria a chance to grow stronger.
βœ… What can you do?

πŸ‘‰ Use antibiotics only when prescribed by a qualified health professional.
πŸ‘‰ Never share or save leftover antibiotics.
πŸ‘‰ Practice good hygiene to prevent infections in the first place.

Together, we can protect today and secure tomorrow. Let’s act now! πŸ’ͺ

Tool to support our patients more effectively.

These are all signs of diabetes distress.οΏ½
As a health professional, you play an important role in recognising these signs and responding with empathy.

Simple steps include:
* Asking open, non-judgemental questions
* Normalising the experience of diabetes distress
* Providing reassurance that support is available
* Referring to a psychologist or mental health professional

Early recognition and intervention can make a significant difference in reducing distress and improving self-care.

The day got away from us!! What did you do for Diabetes Feet Day 2025?

Although we missed posting on the day, I want to take a moment to share how proud I am of our High Risk Foot (HRF) team. At our HRFS pods, our vascular consultant, registrar, and diabetes educators came together with one goal: to listen to our patients and work alongside them to make living with a diabetes-related foot ulcer just a little easier.

It’s these moments of collaboration and patient-centred care that truly make a difference. Thank you to everyone who contributed to improving outcomes and supporting our community.

πŸ‘‰ Tell us in the comments: How did you mark Diabetes Feet Day this year?

🦢 Diabetes Feet Day 2025 | Make Feet Your Focus

Today, we support our friends Diabetes Feet Australia as they raise awareness of foot health and feet screening in people living with diabetes.

Every year, around 510,000 Australians are estimated to be living with diabetes-related foot disease. People living with diabetes are at higher risk of foot complications, including chronic wounds that can lead to severe outcomes if left untreated.

Together, we can raise awareness by creating conversations around the importance of early detection, regular foot checks, and access to specialised care.

Let’s take steps towards better foot health, starting with making feet your focus.

This is calling for more inclusive and supportive workplaces where people with diabetes feel supported, not stigmatised. By strengthening awareness and understanding, we can ensure workplaces where people living with diabetes feel safe, valued, and empowered to thrive – without compromising their health or ambitions.
