Depression looks different for everyone. Some feel deep sadness, others numbness, or being stuck in a dark place.

It’s a common medical condition, and it’s okay to ask for help. Knowing the signs + symptoms, understanding how it shows up, and finding the right support can make a big difference.

You’re not alone, and things can get better.

I like to repost this reminder from time to time to make sure we are all on the same page about what this account is and what it isn’t.

For the record, the therapists on Instagram are not your therapists. Social media isn’t therapy. Instagram is great for inspiration, information, challenges, and other random self help. It’s simply not psychotherapy in any way.

Why? The heart of psychotherapy is relationship. Genuine, face-to-face connections. A sharing of your story with someone who is nonjudgmental and caring.

We can pretend and approximate but never get to the real thing via social media.

Scared to see a therapist? Remember that they probably aren’t a whole lot different from the ones you have found around here.

No means no.
Yes means yes.

We can stay connected whether or not we agree.

We can stay connected whether or not our reactions/opinions/feelings are the same.

Oftentimes the work we do with boundaries focuses on communicating our boundaries to others. That work is important but so is this other work...The work of listening and respecting what others communicate back to us.

Ever wondered about the science behind self-soothing? It’s your body’s natural recipe for calm.

When emotions run high, techniques like deep breathing and visualization help lower your heart rate and clear your mind.

It’s how you move from emotional flooding to grounded connection. The more you practice this skill, the easier it becomes to handle stress, together.
