Back when I thought pain was simple…
This is me back in 2018, deep in my CrossFit era, doing heavy back squats before kids, before Emjay Therapies, before life got busy. 🏋️♀️
Back then, I thought pain was simple, you lift too heavy, you get sore; you rest, it goes away. Easy, right?
But what I’ve learned since is that pain is rarely that black and white. It’s not just about muscle strain or tissue damage. It’s your body’s way of communicating and sometimes that message is more about how safe your nervous system feels than what your muscles are doing. 🧠💡
Think of your nervous system like a smoke alarm. It can go off because there’s a fire (a genuine injury), or because you burnt the toast: tension, stress, fatigue, lack of recovery, poor sleep. 🔥🍞
That’s why the same squat that felt amazing one week might feel tight or sore the next. Your body’s capacity changes depending on what else it’s juggling physically and emotionally.
The good news? We can retrain that system. Through gentle movement, breathwork, manual therapy, and awareness, we can help your body feel safe again, so you can move without your alarm bells constantly ringing. 🌿
Pain isn’t a punishment - it’s a message. And when we start listening instead of fighting it, that’s where real change happens. 💫
