Top Tips for Falls Prevention in the Home
• Clear Pathways: Remove clutter, cords, and throw rugs (or secure them with non-slip backing) from walkways and stairs.
• Improve Lighting: Ensure bright, glare-free lighting; use nightlights in hallways and bathrooms; have light switches at top/bottom of stairs.
• Install Grab Bars: Add sturdy grab bars in the bathroom (shower, bath, near toilet) and along stairways.
• Secure Floors: Fix uneven floorboards, repair worn carpets, and use non-slip mats in wet areas.
• Safe Furniture: Use sturdy chairs that are easy to get in and out of; keep frequently used items within reach (waist-to-shoulder height).
