Auditory processing disorder can be treated with auditory training and, due to neuroplasticity, lead to positive changes in the brain. Children and adults who suffer from listening difficulties struggle in noisy and complex situations such as a classroom, or office environment, cafe's/restaurants and other social settings with background noise. This can lead to learning, language, attention and reading difficulties, increased fatigue and social withdrawal.

Did you know that Cher was diagnosed later in life with dyslexia and dyscalculia?
Cher struggled all through school and left school early thinking she wasn’t as smart as everyone else. Little did she know there was a reason for all her struggles, eventually discovering she was dyslexic after having her own child assessed.
Cher never let these challenges stop her and she went on to become the icon that the world knows and loves today!

Often overlooked, auditory processing skills underpin the brain's ability to interpret, analyse and make sense of the sounds we hear. This is different from hearing acuity itself. These skills include discriminating sounds, understanding spoken language and remembering spoken information. Difficulties with auditory processing, known as auditory processing disorder (APD), can lead to challenges with listening in noisy environments, following directions and comprehending what is said.

Tinnitus and sound sensitivities are common. They can be treated with a method called Tinnitus Retraining Therapy (TRT). Audiologists, ENT's and psychologists around the world currently practice this technique. It aims to reduce intrusiveness, increase control, improve focus, reduce hearing difficulty, reduce emotional distress and improve quality of life.

The ‘wait and see’ argument prevents early identification and intervention for struggling readers.
The myth that you have to wait until a child is 8-years old before dyslexia can be diagnosed, is wrong!
Don’t delay!
