In the world of Yin Yoga, archetypes serve as foundational poses that guide practitioners in exploring flexibility, range of motion, and the profound connection between mind and body.
Shoelace Pose (known as Gomukhasana, or Cow Face Pose) emphasizes deep hip compression while stretching the glutes, outer hips, and lower back. This archetype is particularly effective for improving flexibility in the hips and glutes, relieving tension in the lower back & promoting relaxation and stillness.
With origins in Hatha Yoga, Gomukhasana was traditionally practiced as a meditative seat. Its intertwined leg position symbolizes unity—the interconnectedness of body, mind, and spirit—a core principle of Yoga philosophy.
Shoelace Pose also resonates energetically, aligning chakras. Muladhara (Root Chakra): Encourages grounding and stability, connecting you to Earth’s energy. Svadisthana (Sacral Chakra): Activates emotional release and creativity through hip compression. Anahata (Heart Chakra): With a forward fold, it nurtures compassion and emotional healing. Ajna (Third Eye Chakra): Supports intuition when practiced mindfully.
From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, this pose interacts with meridian lines. Liver Meridian: Clears emotional blocks and fosters decision-making. Gallbladder Meridian: Promotes flexibility and releases frustration. Kidney Meridian: Invigorates vitality and relaxation.
Moreover, Shoelace Pose stimulates fascia—enhancing tissue elasticity, relieving adhesions, and promoting hydration of connective tissues. By holding the pose, practitioners unlock physical and emotional tension, paving the way for mobility and restoration.
Shoelace is ideal for releasing tension after prolonged sitting, processing stress or emotional turbulence, grounding during moments of anxiety, stretching post-exercise to improve recovery &
calming the body during evening routines.

WHAT AN AVERAGE RETREAT DAY LOOKS LIKE:
6.30am: Awaken with a Sunrise meditation
8am: Drop into your morning yoga, pranayama & somatic practice
9am: Wholesome, nourishing, and soul-soothing breakfast
10 - 2.30pm: Yin training module -Explore the wisdom of the chakras and the energetic flow that connects mind, body, and spirit.
12.30 - 2pm: Enjoy a nourishing lunch that fuels both body and soul. Then, the choice is yours—immerse yourself in a refreshing swim, let tension melt away with a calming massage, dive into your thoughts with journaling, or surrender to the luxury of a restful nap.
2 - 5pm: Yin training module - Discover the Meridian pathways of energy flow and their connection to holistic well-being.
5 - 6.30pm: Unwind with an evening Yin practice, easing into gentle poses that release tension and restore balance. Finish with Yoga Nidra, a deeply relaxing journey to calm the mind and renew the spirit.
6.30 - 7.30pm: As the retreat day concludes, gather around for an enchanting dinner that captures the essence of Bali’s vibrant and nourishing cuisine.
8pm: An evening program of connection and joy through shared stories, and light-hearted moments under the soft glow of the retreat night.

Mudita Yoga Studio offers a comprehensive and unique Yin Yoga Teacher Training program, open to both certified yoga instructors looking to expand their class repertoire with yin yoga, and students seeking to enhance their practice and deepen their understanding of yin yoga.

The 50-hour training, spread over six days in Ubud, Bali, equips teachers with the skills to conduct safe, knowledgeable, and captivating Yin classes. The training is conducted in a small group setting, ensuring personalized attention and guidance for each trainee to achieve their highest potential.

I am so excited to announce our 2025 200Hr Teacher Training enrollments are now open. Led by Gina Funke (ERYT500hr) with guest teacher Ritu Babbar (Yoga Tree). The training will run from 20 June - 31 August 2025, including an immersive retreat. This retreat is often the highlight of the teacher training as it offers the opportunity for the trainee to completely immerse themselves in the Yogic lifestyle, which is a worthwhile and enriching experience.
The course will be delivered part-time over alternating Thursday, Friday evenings, Saturday and Sunday sessions, to allow trainees to create a balanced and harmonious lifestyle.
Our commitment to you is to value the uniqueness of each student and to nurture and provide the best support throughout this tremendous journey of becoming the best version of yourself and a truly authentic yoga teacher.
