Congratulations to our resident Elaine and her husband Rex, who recently celebrated 63 years of marriage! 🤵👰‍♀️💒

Rex worked with Kylie from our Leisure & Lifestyle team to surprise Elaine with an anniversary celebration at our cafe last month 🥰 The lovebirds met at the Belvedere Ballroom in 1961, have four boys, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild, and say always being honest is the secret to their long marriage.

Thanks to the Kingborough Chronicle for featuring their story!

He's baaaaaaaaack! 🦌

With Christmas on the way, it's time for our annual competition to see which OneCare home can get the most creative (and mischievous) with their resident reindeer.

Rodney joined our recent outing to the casino, and brought a little Christmas magic along when Jenny had a flutter! 🎰

We celebrated in style last week, capping off our Huon River excursion with a BBQ lunch! 🥂

Students from Kingston High School Tasmania and Woodbridge School, including the wonderful kids of some of our staff, came along to run the grills 🌭 it was lovely to welcome many of our community to join us, including hosting residents from Barossa Park Lodge Glenorchy, OneCare.

We took a trip down the Huon Valley this week, enjoying lunch in Huonville and then onto Franklin for a river cruise 🛥️

We learned some fascinating history about vessels built and restored at the Wooden Boat Centre Tasmania, and were particularly taken by 'Nancy'.

Nancy was built in 1917 in Battery Point by AA 'Tucker' Abel, a well-known local boat builder who specialised in motor launches, for Hobart ferry operator Harry Rowe. She was originally christened as Rowella. Abel's yard was destroyed by fire in 1917, meaning Nancy could have been one of the last craft built there.

In her heyday she operated as a ferry on the Derwent River for almost 40 years until at least the 1950s, work and houseboat, and even a flying boat tender around Hobart.

She later became very dilapidated and was, at one stage, on the point of being wrecked when she was discovered and rescued by Graham Dicker, who employed the shipwright Mick Hubbard to repair the hull. Nancy is now owned and operated by the Living Boat Trust.

We also spotted the old Cartela which many of us remembered plying the Derwent, and some wonderful bird life 🦅

It was such a thrill for our resident Kathleen and L&L Coordinator Emma to take to the stage for the COTA (Council On The Ageing) Tasmania Generations Connect: Tech Together program celebrations! 🎤📱

We were honoured to join the panel discussion and share with everyone how much we've enjoyed the program, and all the ways residents have benefited from taking part.

We'll have our next group of students through in two weeks, and applaud COTA on this brilliant initiative that gives so much to everyone involved 👏👏 We look forward to seeing it in all Tasmanian aged care homes!

Congrats COTA (Council On The Ageing) Tasmania on this wonderful event, sharing the success of the Generations Connect: Tech Together program! 🧑‍💻

We've loved having young digital mentors along to Bishop Davies to help us embrace new technology, bridge the generation and tech gap, and learn from each other. The friendships formed have been one of the best things!

🎥You can watch the launch event back on the livestream here: https://www.youtube.com/live/zI8lCY9ZRrE, including a panel discussion featuring our resident Kathleen and L&L coordinator Emma. We were even on 7 News Tasmania last night.

Everything’s ready for today’s Generations Connect – Tech Together film launch and panel discussion. 🎬

The room is set, the screens are glowing, and we’re almost ready to begin.

We love an op shop outing! 🛍️

Last week we headed to Hobart City Mission Op Shops to browse the racks and take home some bargains. It's like a treasure hunt, easy on the wallet, and stops clothing going to landfill. A win-win! 🌿
