Alhamdulillah, tonight I had the honour of attending the official opening of the “Dearly Departed – Death in Life” exhibition at the State Library of Queensland.

The Library recognised that their archives contained limited information on the death and dying rites and rituals of different cultures and faith communities. To address this gap, Chrissi Theodosoiu from the Library initiated this important exhibition.

In December, I was interviewed as part of the project, and I am blessed to have contributed to the exhibition with the two videos on Muslim burial practices produced by the Library, in helping to share and document our traditions and the Islamic approach to honouring the deceased.

The exhibition will run at the SLQ Gallery from 15 March until 23 August 2026 and the videos will be played throughout the exhibition.

My sincere thanks to Chrissi Theodosoiu, Adam Jefford, and the entire team at the State Library of Queensland for recognising the importance of preserving and sharing these cultural and faith perspectives.

This session will cover the Islamic funeral process, our communal responsibilities (fard kifayah), and what families need to know at the time of a passing. It is an opportunity to gain practical knowledge, ask questions, and better prepare ourselves to serve our community with dignity and compassion.

This workshop is open to everyone and highly encouraged for all adults.
