What does it really mean to step into the role of a patient?

In this video, Lift Clinical Psychologist, Nicole, explores how embracing this role can create structure, clarity and a greater sense of control during cancer treatment.

While it can feel overwhelming at first, learning to focus on what matters, set boundaries and approach treatment with intention can make the experience more manageable and help you feel more confident as you undergo all parts of cancer care.

Watch the full video to hear Nicole’s practical insights and learn how everyday actions such as exercise, nutrition and staying connected can positively shape your cancer journey.

Have you ever noticed that we only ever refer to it as the Exercise Medicine room?

This is intentional.

When you undergo Prescribed Exercise Medicine at Lift, your treatment is medically prescribed, dosed and supervised. It is  carefully aligned to your individual needs and overall care plan.

Because this is not a gym session. It is a medical treatment.

Exercise was my lifeline.

For Wayne, staying active during treatment wasn’t just about fitness, it was about maintaining normalcy, supporting his mental health and feeling capable even on the toughest days.

“Exercise medicine was vital. It’s the number one thing I recommend to anyone starting treatment,” Wayne says. Even when fatigued or feeling foggy, getting moving at Lift helped him leave sessions feeling stronger and clearer.

This is the second of four short videos sharing Wayne’s journey with Lift Cancer Care Services.

Behind the scenes at Lift, this weekend looked a little different.

Every couple of months, our entire team comes together, doctors, physios, exercise physiologists, psychologists, and admin, to step out of the day-to-day and reconnect as one team.

Why does this matter to you?

Because cancer care works best when it’s truly integrated. When your care team communicates, trusts each other, and is aligned around the same values, your experience feels seamless.

These moments help us stay connected, aligned, and focused on what matters most: providing care that feels personal, coordinated, and human.

At Lift, we don’t work in silos. We work together, for you.

If exercise were a pill, it would be prescribed to everyone with cancer.

That’s not hype, it’s science.

When exercise is dosed and prescribed correctly, it functions as a medical treatment. In cancer care, this means it can reduce treatment-related side effects, prevent or slow muscle mass loss, support tolerance to chemotherapy, radiation and other treatments, and reduce the risk of cancer recurrence.

This is why exercise is no longer viewed as rehabilitation. It’s an evidence-based intervention that belongs alongside medical treatment, not after it.

This World Cancer Day, the theme United by Unique perfectly captures what cancer care should look like.

In this video, Lauren Whiting, CEO and Founder of Lift Cancer Care Services, shares why no two people experience cancer the same way, even with the same diagnosis, stage, or treatment and why truly people-centred care can never be generic.

At Lift, care is built around the person, not just the disease - their life, their goals, their challenges, and what matters most to them right now.

Watch the video to hear Lauren’s perspective on why personalised, human-centred care isn’t just important, it’s the future of cancer care.

At Lift, our approach to care centres on treating the whole person, not just the cancer.

Even during treatment, you are still you. While a cancer diagnosis can feel like a dividing line, maintaining a sense of identity remains an important part of wellbeing even if that looks different for a time.

Clinical Psychologist, Nicole, shares why balancing the demands of being a cancer patient with moments of connection, purpose and enjoyment matters throughout treatment.

Whether it is returning to hobbies, staying socially connected or finding meaning in small daily wins, caring for your whole self is an important part of the cancer journey.

Wayne’s advice is simple but could be lifesaving; trust your instincts.

Wayne first noticed a small lump under his armpit, but initial checks didn’t raise an alarm. When it persisted, he pushed for further tests and it was through this persistence that a tumour in his spine was discovered. Early action and listening to your body can make all the difference
This is the first of four short videos sharing Wayne’s journey with Lift Cancer Care Services.

Prescribed Exercise Medicine is changing how prostate cancer care supports patients through treatment and recovery.

Dr Darren Foreman, Urological Surgeon, shares why Exercise Medicine is part of the conversation with his patients from the time of diagnosis and why it should be standard treatment for everyone undergoing prostate cancer treatment.

“Exercise Medicine is a very important part of the conversation with my patients at the time of diagnosis. It is really important they get involved early, right at the start of treatment.”

Watch the video to learn more about how Exercise Medicine and Physiotherapy for prostate cancer at Lift Cancer Care Services support patients before, during and after treatment.

“The really nice thing about the model of care at Lift is that it treats the whole person. They’re not just treating your cancer, they’re looking at everything that’s going on with you.”

For Natasha, that meant a multidisciplinary team under one roof: medical check-ins before every session, evidence-based Prescribed Exercise Medicine, physiotherapy, lymphoedema screening and nutrition support, all working together.

This integrated approach allowed her to stay active and focus on healing while continuing to do the things she loves.

This is the final short video in Natasha’s four-part series with Lift Cancer Care Services.
