ATTENTION ALL COMMUNITY GROUPS

Cessnock Council currently have a draft DCP document on exhibition for Temporary Events. I urge all community groups to submit a submission to Council seeking that the draft DCP have a specific section for not-for-profit committees to host events without having to comply with the same policies as commercial events (like concerts in the vineyards).

Recently I was involved in gaining approval for a community event. I was disgusted with the amount of reports that were needed for a community event. The costs of these reports was in excess of $30,000.

From my involvement as a volunteer with community events, the reason for organising community events to raise funds for the group goals and to bring the community together.

Community groups should be encouraged to host community events. Council’s policy only discourages them.
