Congratulations to Rod Phillips, the inaugural winner of the Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields Bowls Region Warramunda Community Care Bowler of the Year Award.
While Rod finished with two grand final wins for 2025-26, with his beloved Castlemaine Bowls Club, it was his off-rink achievements that first earned him a BCG Bowls Region - Bendigo Playing Area nomination (way back in October).
It was this passion for the sport and sharing it with all vast audience that eventually won him the $500 Warramunda Community Care Bowler of the Year prize.
He was a worthy and popular winner when he accepted the award with wife Sandra at the Bendigo Club earlier today.
We can also announce that the award will continue next year.
Thank you to our sponsor partner Moama Bowling Club for their support in delivering the award and to the BCG executive - Vicky Tierney, Barry Brown and their board.
The winner of the Goulburn Murray Bowls Region Bowler of the Year award will be announced in May.

V⭐ GOULBURN PLAYING AREA – FEBRUARY BOWLER OF THE YEAR ⭐
Grand Final Edition 🎳🔥
It’s been a huge week across the Goulburn Murray Bowls Region, with Weekend and Midweek Pennant Grand Finals played this week. A massive congratulations to all premiership‑winning teams - a brilliant reward for months of commitment, teamwork and resilience. 🏆👏

Please join us in celebrating our February Bowler of the Year winner and runner‑up for the Goulburn playing area.

🏆 Winner — Darren Kelly (Mooroopna Bowling Club)
Few contributors in the Goulburn region match the breadth and depth of Darren Kelly’s service to Mooroopna. A brilliant all‑rounder, Darren not only skips in the Division 1 side, he has represented the Goulburn Valley on numerous occasions and has won multiple Singles and Pairs Club Championships.
But Darren’s influence extends far beyond the green. He has served as Club Secretary for seven years, Greens Keeper for the past 18 months, and Tournament Director for more than seven years, overseeing two major tournaments annually. His administrative footprint includes roles on the Match, Selection and Greens Committees, and he currently serves as Chair of the GV Match Committee.
A leader, organiser, competitor and tireless volunteer — Darren’s contribution is immense, and his February win is richly deserved. 💙🎳

🥈 Runner‑Up — Jenny Furletti (Avenel Bowling Club)
Avenel’s Jenny Furletti is a powerhouse of contribution, both on the green and behind the scenes. Since joining the club, she has taken on countless roles: club delegate, Board Director, long‑serving Catering Officer, and a guiding hand in major club functions including funeral wakes, Christmas events, birthday celebrations and workplace gatherings.
On the green, Jenny is a formidable competitor — Ladies Club Champion nine times (2003, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018) and a finalist again this year. She plays in Avenel’s highest pennant division and was awarded Life Membership in 2022, alongside her husband David.
She also raises funds through homemade jams, pickles and chutneys, and helps maintain the club gardens. A remarkable all‑round contributor and a thoroughly deserving February runner‑up. 💛👏

🎖️ Congratulations also to our remaining Goulburn nominees:
Nagambie – John Sinden
The driving force behind the maintenance and quality of Nagambie’s Marie Street greens. John is the first person the bowls community calls when something needs doing - especially when volunteers are scarce. His contribution adds to a proud family legacy, with wife Lyn serving as a board member and pairs champion.
East Shepparton – Jeanette Doherty
A champion bowler and prolific community volunteer. Jeanette and partner Marilyn Cox won the Goulburn Valley Ladies Champion of Champions Pairs, sealed by Jeanette’s “magnificent last bowl” for a one‑shot victory. Off the green, she is 2025 Shepparton Senior Citizen of the Year, Chair of the Positive Ageing Committee, contributor to Carols by Candlelight, the Scots Uniting Church, the Lost Shepparton Project, and a performer with the Splinters Music Group.
Shepparton Park – Wes Gibbs
Director of Greens and leader of the essential volunteer team maintaining Shepparton Park’s high‑quality surfaces. Wes has served as Chairman (2017–2021), Deputy Chairman (2014–2017) and has been involved in club administration since its inception. A steady, long‑serving contributor.
Violet Town – Robbie Rae
Recipient of a Victorian Senior Achiever Award for more than 30 years of service. Robbie teaches bowls to local schoolchildren, runs educational and social bowls events, contributes to the tennis section of the club, and recently helped raise $2,600 through community fundraising. Here is your full Goulburn Playing Area – February Bowler of the Year Post, written in the exact same structure, tone, rhythm and emoji style as the Campaspe, Bendigo and Goldfields posts.
All nominees are included, all required details are present, and the post has its own Goulburn flavour.

Since joining in 2003, Colin has taken on roles that many clubs struggle to fill. He has coordinated and run the club’s Monday Night Social Bowls for 18 consecutive years, and serves as the long‑standing Tournament Director for the Victorian RSL Lawn Bowls Edinburgh Shield Competition. He is also the club’s Work Health & Safety Officer, attending monthly meetings and ensuring safe operations.
On the green, Colin is equally impressive. He has played in multiple pennant premierships across Division 1, 2, 3 and 4, and won the B Grade Club Singles Championship in 2014–15. A complete contributor - on the rink, behind the bar, in the office and everywhere in between. 💙🎳

A 45‑year member, 30‑year committee contributor and past president, Ellis has guided Heathcote through decades of change, growth and renewal. His leadership was formally recognised during the club’s 120th anniversary celebrations, where he was honoured as Heathcote’s oldest member and acknowledged for his unwavering commitment to both governance and the playing group.
Across more than half a century, Ellis has been a steady competitor, a mentor to new bowlers and a custodian of the club’s traditions. One of his most memorable contributions came during a 24‑hour charity marathon for MND Victoria, where he set himself the challenge of bowling one end for each of his 80 years — a feat that captured the spirit of service and determination he brings to the sport.
A remarkable contributor on and off the green, and a richly deserving February winner. 💚🎳

⭐ CAMPASPE PLAYING AREA – FEBRUARY BOWLER OF THE YEAR ⭐
Grand Final Day Edition 🎳🔥
Today is Campaspe Playing Area Grand Final Day for our Weekend Pennant teams, and excitement is building across the region. While neither of our February honourees is involved in today’s deciders, both have enjoyed outstanding seasons in what is the 100th year of Tongala Bowls Club Bowls Club — a milestone that makes their achievements even more meaningful.
Please join us in celebrating our February Bowler of the Year winner and runner‑up for the Campaspe playing area.

🏆 Winner — Geoff Tinning (Tongala Bowls Club)
Geoff Tinning’s February win honours one of the most extraordinary careers in regional bowls — a career that has shaped Tongala Bowls Club for 60 years, spanning more than half of the club’s 100‑year history. At 91 years old, Geoff remains a calm, consistent and highly respected competitor, still bowling three to four times a week, still contributing, still inspiring.
His record is remarkable: 21 club titles, multiple pennant premierships, state‑level success, and a reputation for precision and composure that has endured across decades of change. But Geoff’s influence reaches far beyond his own achievements.
He is the cornerstone of a bowls dynasty almost unmatched in regional sport. Geoff followed in the footsteps of his father Tom, a club champion, and bowled alongside his brothers — the late Ivan and Keith “Chooka” Tinning — both life members and decorated competitors. Together, they built a family legacy that now extends across four generations. His sons and grandsons have all claimed club championships and representative honours, with full Tinning rinks becoming a feature of Tongala’s Division One pennant history.
Geoff’s contribution also includes nurturing the future of the sport. He is a constant presence during Tongala Primary School’s bowls visits, a program that has sparked remarkable interest among young bowlers. His patience, encouragement and genuine love for the game have helped introduce dozens of children to bowls — a legacy as important as any title.
In the club’s centenary year, Geoff’s February win is more than recognition of performance. It is a tribute to longevity, leadership, family legacy and a lifetime of service to the blue and white. A truly exceptional and deeply deserving winner. 💙🎳

🥈 Runner‑Up — Sally Beach (Tongala Bowls Club)
A three‑time Ladies Club Champion and one of Tongala’s most consistent performers, Sally has risen rapidly since taking up bowls in 2016. Her focus, determination and competitive strength make her a standout in pennant and championship play.
Off the green, Sally is the engine room of club life — coordinating tournaments, events and social activities with precision and warmth. She blends fresh ideas with deep respect for Tongala’s history, helping shape a vibrant, forward‑looking club culture. A superb contributor in every sense. 💛👏

Geoff wins a $200 cash reward from Warramunda Community Care and Sally a $100 voucher from Moama Bowling Club.

Congratulations also to the remaining nominee for the Campaspe playing area:
Rochester Bowls Club Janis Tamburini was recognised for her consistency, composure and strong all‑round contribution to the club. On the green, she was part of the winning Mathoura/Rochester rink at the Rochester Ladies Fours Tournament, triumphing in a field of 88 players, and she continues to perform reliably in club and regional events.
Off the green, Janis is just as valuable, supporting event organisation, member engagement and the everyday operations that keep Rochester running smoothly. Her steady presence, positive attitude and willingness to contribute make her a respected and much‑appreciated member of the club community.

🎉 Good luck to all Weekend Pennant bowlers today, and to all Midweek Pennant bowlers for Tuesday’s Grand Finals.
Play well, play fair, and enjoy every moment.
