It is with the heaviest of hearts that I announce I am closing my business. Secondary to my children, founding, growing, and working in Open Paddock Equine Assisted Psychology has been the biggest source of joy and fulfilment for me and will no doubt be one of my most proudest achievements in life.

I started this work when I experienced the profound effects of equine assisted psychotherapy. There was no way I could go through life not offering this work to clients. Over 6 years, myself, Milo, and Cody have had the absolute privilege of supporting so many clients on their journey and to you, my clients, I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Thank you for entrusting me with the most important thing to you…. Your stories, your mental health, and your healing. Therapy is not such a one-sided process as you might imagine. You have offered me newfound insight and awareness, connection, compassion, and support. I can not thank you enough. Your courage has inspired me every day and to have shared laughter and tears with you has been an honour.

To one of my best friends, Daman Eccles. Without you none of this would have been possible. You offered your horses and property to me when I had nothing to start with but the will to give it a go. Your ongoing friendship and business support has been invaluable and I don’t know how I can ever repay you for what you have given me. With love, I thank you my friend.

To my friend Thomas Tuan Nguyen, who not only did all of my IT work including building my beautiful website but was always available whenever I needed any IT support, from all corners of the world. You have always been available to me, nothing has been too much for you, and you have done it all with such grace and composure even when I’m about to throw my computer out the window. Thank you for being one of the wisest people I know, and for offering me not only IT support but friendship too.

To my horses, Milo and Cody. They have been my co-workers for 6yrs and at times my biggest supports and resource. What an honour it has been to work alongside them both and the purpose they have had through the job they took on I believe has truly enriched their lives. They have supported my clients in ways I never could and what they have offered is truly beyond words and I am forever grateful for them. I could say that I wish I could tell them these words myself, but they know. Rest assured, they will continue to be well looked after living out their best lives in retirement with the rest of their herd.

Last but not least, to Andrew and my children. You supported me to follow a dream. I truly could not have done this without you. The time my business and the horses has taken away from family is not lost on me, and I cannot express enough gratitude for your support, guidance, and patience. With love, I thank you.

It’s so important to know when to hold on and when to let go. This is the right time for me and it is with both sadness and excitement i start a new chapter.

In the context of trauma, when clients tell me they are angry, my usual response is great, you should be angry.

Anger can be used to acknowledge and accept that something bad has happened. Anger is the part of us that demands better. It indicates a boundary violation.

Anger is an essential part of recovery, so long as you don’t get stuck there 🐴

Horses are clear in their boundaries. Their β€˜yes’ and β€˜no’. What they will put up with and what they won’t put up with. In that way, they model healthy boundaries to us humans and also help us learn our own line in the sand and assert that with both softness and strength 🐴
