Introducing Dr Rida Tayyab to Laidley Family Doctors.
Dr Rida graduated from medical school in Pakistan. She worked in Ireland for two years in General Surgery before making the move to Australia in 2021.
Gaining experience in Emergency Medicine, General Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, General Surgery, Paediatric Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Dr Rida values a holistic approach and is interested in treating a variety of patients.
Outside of work, she enjoys cooking and spending time with her family.

Meet Dr Raquelle Hres.
Dr Raquelle is joing the Laidley Family Doctors this week. Dr Raquelle graduated with an MD from the University of Queensland in 2022. She then completed her resident doctor years at Ipswich Hospital, working across emergency, geriatrics and general medicine. Dr Raquelle is now training towards her Rural Generalist specialisation and works between the clinic and Laidley Hospital. Her areas of interest include geriatric medicine, women's health, and rural medicine. Outside of work, Dr Raquelle lives in Ipswich with her family and enjoys gardening, cooking (and eating!) good food, and crafts.

IMPORTANT:

Individuals with an existing record in the Australian Q Fever Register prior to 15 April 2024 will only be able to access their information, including their Q Fever eStatement, until 30th June 2025. After this date, individuals will no longer be able to access their information.1

Individuals can access their Q Fever eStatement by either:1

Logging onto the Q Fever Register website and downloading a copy; or
Requesting a copy by contacting the Q Fever Register on 1300 733 837
(Note: An individual’s identity must be verified before the release of any information.)

What Can I Do?

Remind your patients to access their Q fever vaccination evidence (Q fever eStatement) prior to June 30th 2025, and take this to a recognised vaccination provider in Australia for these details to be reported to the AIR.1,2

Since Q-VAX® is a one-off immunisation that must not be given a second time, nor given to anyone who has previously had Q fever, maintaining accurate records on the AIR means that important information is immediately available to you and your fellow health practitioners.

Laidley Family Doctors has been serving our community for over 50 years. Situated in the main street, the practice caters to a wide variety of patients not only from Laidley but also from surrounding towns. Our vision is to provide comprehensive medical care to the community. We believe preventive care is key to keeping the community healthy. We are a bulk-billing medical practice.

We want to hire a nurse who is passionate about patient care. We pride ourselves in catering to the needs of our patients.

The successful applicant will need:
• Professional Accreditation with AHPRA – EEN or RN
• Professional Indemnity Insurance
• Drivers Licence and Vehicle

Skills and Experience:
• Experience in General Practice desired but not essential.
• Attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal communications skills with the ability to build rapport and strong connections with patients, co-workers, and other health professionals.
• Strong written communications skills for conducting patient care plans and other various health assessments and reports.
• Ability to work independently and unsupervised with patients of all ages (adequate training will be provided as necessary).
• Ability to work as part of a fantastic team.
• Exceptional time management skills.

Introducing Dr Nipuni Wanasinghe

Dr Nipuni graduated with an MBBS from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 2015 and brings over a decade of diverse medical experience. Initially, she worked in leading national and rural hospitals in Sri Lanka, gaining expertise in medicine, surgery, anesthetics, emergency medicine, and outpatient care (similar to general practice in Australia).

Dr Nipuni later completed specialist training in Ophthalmology, earning her MD(Ophthalmology) in 2023.

After moving to Australia in 2023, Dr Nipuni served as a Resident Medical Officer in Caboolture Hospital, where she completed rotations in medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, and the emergency department.

Dr Nipuni is interested in all aspects of general practice with a particular interest in eye health, minor surgical procedures, wound care, women’s health, general medicine, and mental health. She also speaks English and Sinhala.

Outside work, Dr Nipuni is a mother of a 7 years old boy and enjoys the time with family and travelling.

Joining the Laidley Family Doctors in February 2025.

Dr Gemma was born in Canberra, ACT and went to medical school at ANU.

Dr Gemma moved to Queensland in 2015 and has training in Intensive Care and Retrieval medicine and has a passion for rural health.

Dr Gemma lives with her two dogs and enjoys playing and listening to classical music. She has also rediscovered the joy of lego and now has way too much of the stuff

Dr Bradley Brennan obtained his medical degree from the University of Queensland. He grew up in Brisbane and now lives in the Lockyer Valley Region with his wife and baby daughter. He has worked various public hospitals, including 10 years working in Emergency Medicine. He has special interest in acute medicine, minor surgical procedures, and geriatrics. Outside of medicine, he enjoys hiking, swimming, and cricket.

This HPV Awareness Day we are highlighting the new National Strategy for the Elimination of Cervical Cancer. Australia could be the first country to meet or exceed World Health Organisation targets in human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination, cervical screening and cervical cancer treatment.
New survey data shows that although 62% of young people in Australia aged 18 to 25 are sexually active, knowledge of HPV is low, with 63% unaware that this is a preventable infection.
