We’re checking in to see who might be interested in heading along to the Newcastle Fringe Festival 🎭🎶
This could be a fun opportunity to enjoy live performances, creative arts, music, and community vibes right here in Newcastle. We’d love to know if this is something participants, families, or community members would be keen to be involved in.

🎣🔥 Saturday Fishing & Cooking Group 🔥🎣
We kicked off our very first Fishing & Cooking Group last Saturday, the 21st, and it was an absolute hit! 🙌
The group headed out for a relaxing fishing session, learning hands‑on skills like setting up rods, baiting hooks, and enjoying time by the water. From there, it was straight into cooking mode — preparing, cooking, and enjoying a meal together outdoors. The photos say it all: great teamwork, confidence building, and plenty of proud moments (plus some very tasty food! 🍳🔥).
This group runs every Saturday from 4-7pm and focuses on building independence, practical cooking skills, and community access in a fun, supportive environment. It’s all about having a go, learning new skills, and enjoying the experience together.

🌟 Celebrating Leeann’s Amazing Achievements! 🌟
Over the weekend, Leeann took big steps in her capacity building journey, and we are so proud of how far she’s come!
She kicked things off by cooking a warm, delicious rice pudding with support. Cooking is a fantastic way to build independence — from understanding steps to measuring ingredients — and Leeann showed incredible determination and growing confidence throughout the whole process. 🍚✨
After cooking, the fun continued with music, glowsticks, and a lively dance session alongside her support worker Casey. Dancing is not only joyful — it helps with coordination, emotional expression, and social engagement, and Leeann absolutely glowed with her energy and enthusiasm! 💃🟣💚
Seeing Leeann develop her skills, express herself, and enjoy meaningful activities is truly inspiring. We can’t wait to see what she takes on next!

🧺 Picnic wins for Geoff with support from his DSW Jenni! 🧺
Together they planned the outing, packed the picnic, and navigated the park, building real‑world skills in meal prep, budgeting, time management, travel training, and confident community participation.
Love seeing Geoff make healthy choices, try new things, and take another step towards independence. Great teamwork, Jenni and Geoff!

🌟What a New Year’s Eve! 🌟

On 31 December, Henry took the stage at Bernie’s Bar and absolutely lit up the room. 🌟
This moment wasn’t luck; it was months of capacity building, goal setting, and practice, with Henry leading the way. From choosing songs and planning rehearsals to building confidence performing for an audience, Henry has worked hard toward his goal of sharing his music with the community.

Huge congratulations to Henry for turning his goal into reality, and thank you to everyone who backed him - from family to support workers and the Bernie’s Bar team. 🎶✨

Here’s to more growth, independence, and joyful community participation in 2026!

MERRY CHRISTMAS !

New Leaf participants and staff had such a great time at our Christmas party today at the park!

Even though the weather wasn’t exactly sunny, it definitely didn’t stop the fun. We shared laughs, enjoyed good food, and made the most of the day together.

Thanks to everyone who came along and helped make it a special time.
