ADHD Consults Australia Judie Gade We will help build cohesiveness through educational support & individualised planning. For example work, school & team sports.

ADHD Consults is an Australian-based, education and health promotion consultancy servicing the corporate, education, sport and community sectors, in relation to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. This includes related co-morbidities within work, education and elite sports environments whilst utilising a holistic , person-centred approach. Each client has differing goals, challenges & they need a planned approach pertinent to their situation. We develop ways for individuals, businesses, government or private schools to understand ADHD within the context of the environment they are dealing with. 'STARTEGIES' [it is often the getting 'started' that puts up road blocks to success] will create a more inclusive, caring & accepting culture to support Neuro-divergent people in their team. Understanding the quirks & behaviours of A-typical, neurodiverse people in work spaces, classrooms & in coaching situations will create an environment where all can flourish & learn ways to increase productivity. By learning 'STARTegies' [strategies to assist in helping get started on an activity] to assist members of this group of ADDults, will help create a more cohesive, caring team & retain the human capital for the long term, increasing personal & life skills for all participating. This maintains a sustainable group culture.

Rather chuffed! I was asked to write an article for Women with ADHD for the CWA magazine “Victorian Country Woman” by our state president Jenny Nola.

We had been noticing the traits in quite a few members, with some struggling.

ADDventurous Women have a high sense of empathy and an unusual sense of fairness. We are more likely to be the ones to put our foot in our mouths as standing up the rights of others & the vulnerable. Even if we don’t like a person, if the wrong thing has been done about them, it’s highly likely will speak up, regardless of the consequences.

We are more likely to be highly creative and are natural problem solvers. We are hands-on people, kinaesthetic & visual learners.

**Everyone has baggage, we just seem to have a few extra pockets.**

This is only short but it will give you an idea what it is
to be an ADDventurous Woman. Maybe it will help you understand a friend, partner, a student or even your daughter.

If you have questions, put them in the comments. Any Advertising will be delighted as will negative comments. I will not tolerate it when this is a sensitive for many.

Remember to be KIND and not critical. Life is hard enough.

NOTE: This article was based on ‘The ADDventurous Women’s Checklist’ that I wrote in 2003 and have updated sporadically since .

PARKINSON’S DISEASE … it looks like I will be writing an article on Parkinson’s disease around research that is going on at the moment.

Apparently the government considers this research into genetics is important.

There are medications which are in a class of drugs called ‘dopamine agonists’ that are used to treat Parkinson’s Disease that are also used for restless leg syndrome [RLS] and Fibromyalgia [of which I have both]. I was contacted because I take this medication.

My mother was also on this drug [Sifrol] for RLS and she was on another one called Madopar, another dopamine agonist. Mum had Parkinson’s Disease and so did her father.

I saw the symptoms in both of them well before doctors considered it. It was 12 months with my grandfather, before the same doctor would diagnose him and five months for my mother.

This eventual article will the scrutinised by an ethics committee. It will be for the public to read. Many of you would not know that my qualifications put me in a category of journalists that is uncommon.

This is why the research facility is allowing me to do this article, on the proviso I allow them to take it to their ethics committee [for accuracy] to approve it.

This will allow me to mention the research facility, names of researchers and doctors who are experts in this area and also the name of the facility.

FACEBOOK FRIENDS … If anybody has an experience with Parkinson’s Disease, either themself or an immediate family member [parent, sibling, grandparent] or you want to pass this on to a friend who may be affected, I would like to interview respondents when I start researching.

I can refer you to the research facility if you would like to take part, which I advise you to.

This will be in the near future. Firstly, I have to do the research, which I am anticipating will be quite a lot of reading, disseminating and analysing. has to be accurate.

I want to make an apology …

The past 18 months have been a little bit hard health-wise. After contracting Covid, which wasn’t as bad as what others went through, that’s for sure, I developed Long Covid.

Long Covid not only acted like an Energy Vampire, my short-term memory [STM] became even more ‘dodgy’.

As we ALL know, being ADHD our STM is not the best. Thankfully I have the most patient & forgiving husband. Such a legend.

Just having my energy & STM compromised impacted our lives greatly. I say ‘our’ as my health impacts everyone around me.

It affected my mental health, ability to do any type of work, physical & mentally, even getting in my happy place, the veggie pot. I would literally mentally freeze.

Come about 5 o’clock in the afternoon and I was ready for bed.

Now I have POTS. [Postural Orthostatic Tachycardic Syndrome]. Your blood pressure drops and your pulse rate goes right up to compensate for your blood pressure dropping. Your memory gets even worse, your energy levels plummet, you get dizzy and nauseated.

I already had tachycardia and an irregular heartbeat so it was nearly missed. I spoke to my new GP about the dizziness and nausea and he knew straight away. Didn’t occur to me and usually I can pick these things.

Seriously, Covid-19 is like the bad gift that keeps on giving. As soon as you are over one thing, you get slammed with something associated with Covid again.

With the weather changes around here with cold, heat, wind squalls and rain, I’m starting to have a Fibro flare.

Good job Jude! We don’t do things by halves do we? In all things in life, it’s a bit of “go hard or go home”.

Add the psoriasis, that was almost gone, flaring on my scalp plus my eyes are being hit by hayfever. You could say, I’m feeling a little bit. “Why me?“.

I just keep telling myself that good things are around the corner. I just have to get over this health speed hump. There’s so much on at the moment and it’s very hard to pace myself.

I love competing in agricultural shows, and/or CWA exhibitions but something always seems to happen to put me on the back foot.

Note to Self: Do little bits and pieces throughout the year and plan to not leave non-cooking entries being started for the last three weeks before an event. Even the last week in my case, sometimes!

Such is the life of an AdDventurous woman … we just have to learn to forgive ourselves.

Please excuse me while I crash on the couch and watch a Hallmark movie! Maybe I’ll do a bit of crochet. Some ‘me time’ is well in order … the beetroot I just pulled out of the ground will have to wait.

Who relates? It is one of the biggest struggles we deal with … when our brains decide it wants to change our focus, a combination or easy distractability & impulsivity.

Even though this appears to be a negative trait, it is also a ‘Gift’. Let me explain …

Why? Simply put, this is a form of . For example, when doing a session & you are trying to come up with various scenarios, this ‘all over the shop’ thinking with ideas dumping into your head, out of your mouth & in dot points on paper [preferably by someone else who is a well organised lineal thinker], this would not happen in such a creative way UNLESS you …

Link Thinking is my term for that leads you in another direction, what people term as , “going off track” or “losing focus”. This common ADHD trait is a strength in the right situation. It is how scientific discoveries are made & problems solved.

Essentially, ADHD people could not think in a straight line if you paid them … they think in a zig zag thought process. If they go out ‘on a tangent’, don’t pull them up and put them down as often happens, ask them “you said this … then this … how did you come up with this? I’m interested.”

If I do this and see ‘THAT LOOK’ on their confused face 😂, I will stop immediately, pause & say, “Do you want to know how I came up with that.” Unless you explain to the Neuro-typical listener, they won’t understand nor will they change their perception of you, concentrating on the negative & not the positive.

For every trait that Others see as Negative, there is a POSITIVE. By ‘Others’ I mean non-ADHD people. The population. As an example, the Distractibility Trait is necessary in situations. There is a need for a rescuer to be able to see the and not what is in front of them.

There is a need for the person doing a rescue having the ability to take in & scan the environment, think of all possible outcomes, then choosing the best way to solve the problem & act on it … all in seconds. The same can be said for ADF personnel in war zones.

Then kicks in, a trait that is deemed a negative in many situations. In the RIGHT environment, such as … when fighting of mammoth proportions … in active war zones u der fire … they need to act immediately, after their brain has taken in all information & come up with the best course of action.

Some would call this being a Quick Decision Maker … all based on our , intuition, impulsivity trait, being easily distracted & overall Life Experience … something we tend to have diversity in. After all, we DO tend to multi-task!
