Groin injuries often occur during twisting, turning, or sudden changes of direction - and because the groin contains multiple muscles and structures, every groin injury is different.

The most common cause is an adductor muscle strain, typically from overstretching during quick movement.

But resting until the pain settles isn’t enough. If the underlying issue isn’t addressed, recurrent strains are common.

Predisposing factors include:

• Inadequate rehab after the first injury
• Stiffness in the lower back
• Poor pelvic stability
• Muscle imbalances

Physiotherapy can help identify and treat the cause of the strain - not just the symptoms - to reduce recurrence and restore safe movement.

Lower back pain is one of the most common health problems in Australia, affecting up to 80% of people at some stage.

Just like any other muscle strain, the soft tissues in the lower back can become injured - often from lifting incorrectly, repetitive activities, or poor posture that puts stress on the joints and ligaments.

Other causes include disc issues, fractures, arthritis and age-related spinal changes.

Physiotherapy, hydrotherapy and back care education are effective ways to restore movement, reduce pain and strengthen your back safely.

If you're experiencing lower back pain after lifting, it might be worth getting it checked out.

Cervicogenic headaches - could your neck be the cause?

If you’re experiencing persistent headaches that start at the base of your skull or feel like they radiate from your neck, the problem may not actually be your head - it could be your neck.

A cervicogenic headache is a secondary headache caused by dysfunction in the joints, muscles, or nerves of the upper neck.

Common signs include:

➡️ Headache that begins in the neck and spreads to the head or behind the eye
➡️ Neck pain, stiffness, or limited movement
➡️ Headaches triggered by certain neck movements or sustained postures
➡️ Pain on one side of the head or face
➡️ Worsening symptoms after long periods of sitting, driving, computer use or poor posture

These headaches often stem from muscle tightness, joint restrictions, or irritation of the upper cervical nerves - all areas where physiotherapy can make a real difference.

Ever wondered what’s behind the mystery of a frozen shoulder....❄️

Also known as adhesive capsulitis, frozen shoulder is a condition that causes severe pain and a gradual loss of shoulder movement.

The condition develops when scar tissue forms in the shoulder, causing the joint capsule to thicken and tighten, leaving less room for movement.

While it can happen spontaneously, frozen shoulder can follow a recent injury or fracture.

✋ If you’ve been feeling pain, tingling or numbness in your hand, you might be dealing with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome.

This condition happens when the median nerve is compressed as it passes through the wrist, leading to:

⚡ Pain or burning in the wrist and palm
🤲 Numbness or pins and needles in the thumb, index, middle and ring fingers
💤 Night-time discomfort
✍️ Pain with typing, writing or repetitive wrist use

It can be triggered by overuse, muscle imbalance, rheumatoid arthritis or even pregnancy-related swelling.

Physiotherapy can help relieve pain, improve flexibility and restore normal movement so you can get back to your everyday activities.

Don’t ignore persistent wrist pain; early treatment can prevent long-term nerve irritation and keep you feeling strong and capable.

Kindness is contagious 💙

November 13 is World Kindness Day.

This is your reminder to take a moment today to check in on a friend, smile at a stranger, or lend a hand where it’s needed.

Those small gestures can have a big impact.

And don’t forget to be kind to yourself too.

Your body works hard for you every day and it deserves care in return.

💧 Drink plenty of water
🧘 Stretch and move
🚶 Go for a walk
😴 Rest when you need to
💬 Seek support when something doesn’t feel right

This World Kindness Day, let’s make compassion a daily habit for others and for ourselves.

That sudden, sharp muscle cramp that stops you mid-run, mid-game or mid-sleep, we’ve all felt it.

The good news? Most cramps can be prevented with a few simple habits that keep your body hydrated, balanced and ready to move.

Here’s how to reduce your risk 👇

✅ Stay hydrated – sip water regularly, not just during workouts.

✅ Stretch often – focus on calves, hamstrings and feet.

✅ Warm up + cool down – help your muscles transition smoothly.

✅ Eat a balanced diet – include potassium, magnesium and calcium-rich foods.

✅ Wear supportive footwear – replace worn-out shoes before they cause strain.

✅ Pace yourself – build up training gradually and allow recovery time.

Persistent or recurring cramps can be a sign of muscle imbalance, fatigue or dehydration, and your physiotherapist can help identify what’s really going on.

Training for a fun run, charity event, or just getting back into regular exercise? 🏃‍♀️

You might be feeling those familiar aches in your feet, heels, calves or knees, but don’t hang up your runners just yet!

Most overuse injuries can be prevented (and managed) with a few smart training habits.

Here’s how to stay on track 👇

✅ Increase training gradually – sudden jumps in intensity or distance often lead to injury.

✅ Wear supportive, cushioned shoes – and check if they’re worn out before your next run.

✅ Avoid hard surfaces where possible – softer ground helps absorb shock.

✅ A stretch and warm-up helps prevent injury.

✅ Listen to your body – mild pain isn’t always bad, but ongoing pain needs a professional check.

If pain persists, your physiotherapist can help with stretching and strengthening programs or specific taping to support the injured/painful areas while they recover.

The goal isn’t just to run, it’s to run well, pain-free, and long-term 🤲

With students gearing up for exams and some already finished, many teens find themselves spending hours in front of computers or buried in textbooks 📚

This daily routine can wreak havoc on our upper backs and necks, often resulting in tense muscles, headaches, and discomfort 🤕

To prevent these issues, consider the following tips:

⏰ Take regular study breaks: These breaks can enhance concentration and reduce the likelihood of back and neck pain.

🚶‍♂️Incorporate stretching and mobility exercises into your study breaks: These activities boost circulation and alleviate strain on joints and muscles from prolonged desk work.

🏋️ Engage in regular physical exercise: Physical activity not only enhances concentration and memory retention but also helps in preventing headaches, back pain, and neck discomfort.

For more insights, check out our blog "Studying - A Pain in the neck" ➡️ https://www.lifecare.com.au/blog/studying-a-pain-in-the-neck/

Avoiding headaches, back pain, or neck discomfort during exams is crucial for success!

💪 Why Strength & Conditioning is Essential in Pain and Rehabilitation

Find it hard to stay motivated with your physio exercises? You’re not alone - but understanding why those strength and conditioning movements matter can make all the difference.

Strength training isn’t just for gym junkies or elite athletes.

In physiotherapy, it’s one of the most powerful tools we have to help people manage pain, recover from injury, and build a stronger, more resilient body.

Here’s why it matters 👇

✅ Pain doesn’t always mean damage – movement is key to recovery
✅ Strength training helps rebuild healthy muscles, tendons and bones
✅ Conditioning improves your ability to handle daily demands and sport
✅ You can reduce pain and improve function even without ‘fixing’ the structure
✅ Building strength empowers both body and mind

Whether you’re managing long-term pain, recovering from surgery, or simply want to future-proof your body, strength and conditioning is at the heart of modern rehabilitation.

Ever noticed a crackling, grinding or popping noise coming from your joints? 🦵

You might be experiencing crepitus - a common and usually harmless sound caused by movement within your joints.

But when it’s paired with pain, swelling, or stiffness, it can be an early sign of something more serious.

Here’s what you need to know 👇

✅ It’s caused by small air bubbles or friction inside your joint
✅ It’s common with age, activity or previous injury
✅ Pain, swelling or stiffness = time to see your physio
✅ Physio treatment can improve mobility and protect your joints long-term
