Perfectionism can look like “I’m just being disciplined”… until your body starts collecting diagnoses to get your attention.

In this episode with , Dr Amy shares how her body burnout didn’t come out of nowhere - it built over years of over-achieving, putting huge pressure on herself through pharmacy school and her early career, and pushing for perfect results… while her health was quietly waving red flags. 🚩

Amy’s first autoimmune diagnosis showed up at 17, then later came Graves disease, and by 27 she was diagnosed with MS - and that was the moment she realised she had to get curious about what role her patterns were playing.

What hit me most was her honesty: she wasn’t “doing nothing” to try to help her health. She was doing ALL the outer habits (the protocols, the diets, the supps)… but missing the inner habits of how she was thinking and feeling while she did them. 🧠

That is such a real story — and I know how vulnerable it is to admit “I wasn’t coping” and then choose to do something different.

And can we just pause on these shifts… **energy 2/10 → 9/10** is HUGE. That’s not “a bit better”, that’s getting your life back. Add in mood lifting, symptoms settling, and all those ripple effects — better habits, more balance, self-love, relationships, work, enjoyment… that’s the kind of healing that changes who you are on the other side.

I didn’t realise I was burnt out… I just thought this was what “being capable” felt like.

But the truth? I was the girl who could hold EVERYTHING — the work, the people, the pressure — and I kept pushing through because that’s what you do when you're running perfectionism and people-pleasing patterns.

The over-achiever in me whispered: “Just keep going… don’t drop the ball.”

My nervous system screamed: “Stay on… stay alert… you can rest later.”

And my body started begging: “I can’t keep paying for this with fatigue, gut chaos, and mood swings.”

If you’ve been through a long season of extreme stress, it’s not just “in your head” when your body still feels cooked afterwards. One of the biggest missing pieces is this: **certain body systems can genuinely get depleted and dysregulated over time**, and that’s what keeps symptoms hanging around even when life finally calms down. 🧠

In this episode I break down the main systems I’d be looking at in a case like this — adrenals fatigue, depleted brain chemicals, s*x hormone imbalances, and mitochondria retraction.

The importance of getting clear functional lab data, is where we can see where the imbalances lie - and not just guess based on symptoms. Because a collection of symptoms post extreme stress like - fatigue, hair loss, brain loss, anxiety - could be coming from any of the above body systems.

So rather than throw a bunch of supps at the adrenals, when it's actually the mitochondria that need support, test not guess. In the end, it will save you a whole lotta time, money and frustraion :🧩

Self-limiting beliefs: the ultimate power suckers 🧠

They are always at the root-cause of body burnout.

They suck your internal power, put a massive stress on your nervous system (24/7!), set you up with dysfunctional patterns that lead to poor health, and will prevent you from truly healing, and staying well for life.

Everything you do is driven by your internal belief-system. Underneath every thought, feeling, action, behaviour and habit lies a belief. The results you have in your life, including your current health state is also dictated by your belief-system.

You cannot exist without having a belief about yourself and your existence in this world.

It’s how we are hard-wired. It’s how our brains are programmed. Without a belief-system you would have no substance to think or act or be what makes us human. 💛

So the deepest, most entrenched beliefs you have about yourself matter. They really matter. ✨
