Sharing a few pics from a great afternoon on Australia Day, coming together for a relaxed BBQ and park games — including a very competitive game of 'backyard' cricket!

Thank you to all the staff and participants who joined in, brought along salads to share, played games, and enjoyed plenty of laughs on what turned out to be a beautiful day. The sense of connection and fun was felt by everyone there, and it was wonderful to see people so engaged and enjoying each other’s company.

Declan summed it up perfectly when he said, “This is the best Australia Day I have ever had!” Oscar, Declan, Mathew, Sarah and Alice were fully immersed in the cricket game, with some great support from Grace and June along the way.

Outstanding active support across the board — a big thank you to every support worker and attendee who made the day such a success.

Aussie Aussie Aussie...! It was lovely to come together and celebrate an early Australia Day in Newstead.

There were plenty of smiles, good company and a great sense of connection as we each celebrated what it means to our staff and participants. Thank you to everyone who planned the events, got dressed up, and joined us to make the day so enjoyable.

A reminder that our office will be closed for the Australia Day public holiday and will reopen on Tuesday.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy long weekend!

Jo recently celebrated a very special milestone, turning 70 last week, and she was well and truly spoilt by friends and family.

Even on her birthday, Jo stayed committed to her goals, spending the morning at Day Services working on her budgeting skills; a great reflection of her determination and independence.

Celebrations followed with a cheeky caramel cake shared with friends, before a lovely afternoon treat at Banjo’s with her support staff, and a special birthday dinner at Cataract on Paterson with family and friends.

Truly a day to remember, happy 70th birthday Jo!

We enjoyed a lovely Christmas lunch in Devonport! A huge thank you to Tim for doing an amazing job preparing all the food, and to Georgie and Tash for decorating and setting everything up so beautifully.

There were plenty of smiling faces, happy conversations and very full bellies — a wonderful way to celebrate the season together. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day so enjoyable.

What a wonderful night celebrating Christmas together in Launceston we had last Friday! The room was filled with laughter, music and festive spirit, and it was so special to see everyone enjoying the evening.

A heartfelt thank you to Emma and her Disability Team for leading the planning, plus Health and the Assets Team setting up, Kerryn who MC'd brilliantly, and to all staff who helped make the night run so smoothly. Your planning, care and hard work behind the scenes made a real difference and created such a welcoming atmosphere for everyone.

We’re also incredibly grateful for the support of our local community, especially the New Horizons Choir, whose beautiful performances added something truly special to the evening to kick things off.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed — it was a fantastic way to come together and share the joy of the Christmas season- we'll have more in our next newsletter!

What an incredible day we had celebrating International Day of People with Disability last Friday in Launceston! The energy, smiles and sense of community (and the weather!) made it a standout from start to finish.

Everyone enjoyed a fantastic footy clinic with a huge thanks to AFL Tasmania, followed by a delicious BBQ lunch — with a big thank you to Emma and Waqas for leading the cooking, and to the staff and participants who prepared the salads. The afternoon flowed into a creative burst of colour with art and craft activities, finishing with a wonderful exhibition showcasing everyone’s work.

A heartfelt thank you once again to AFL Tas, all staff who supported the day, and to our Day Program and Disability Team Leaders for the coordination behind the scenes. Events like this happen because of your commitment and care. Great job and thanks to all for attending!

Hannah spent the day recently exploring the museum, taking in new sights and attractions, and discovering things that sparked her curiosity. She’s always on the go and eager to learn, making the most of every opportunity to experience something new.

Outings like this support Hannah’s goals of building independence, learning new skills and staying connected with her community.

Love to see it Hannah! Keep embracing new experiences and enjoying everything your community has to offer.

Today we recognise International Day of People with Disability — a day to celebrate inclusion, acknowledge achievements, and champion the strengths, talents and contributions of people with disability in our community.

At St Michael’s, this day is an important reminder of the value of connection, acknowledgement and opportunity for all. We’re proud of the individuals we support and the many ways they enrich our workplaces, families and communities every day.

We’d love for you to continue the celebrations with us this Friday at our community events in Launceston and Devonport! There’ll be games, Christmas crafts, an AFL clinic, a picnic lunch, and plenty of festive fun for everyone.

Join us as we come together to recognise, include and celebrate — we’d love to see you there.

🎁 Christmas Donations Call-Out! 🎄

We’re getting ready to spread some festive cheer — and we’d love some help from our local communities!

St Michael’s is seeking donations from local businesses and community members to support our upcoming Christmas celebrations and festive activities. Every contribution, big or small, helps make the season brighter for our participants.

We have a few major events coming up in December; celebrating International Day for People with a Disability with simultaneous picnic events in Devonport and Launceston on Friday 5/12, before our annual Christmas dinners spread across the following weekends!

Here’s how you can get involved with a donation:

✨ Craft Items & Christmas Decorations – Handmade or festive supplies to help us create something special across our Day Programs.
🎟️ Vouchers – Store, café, or experience vouchers to support new community access initiatives and raffle prizes.
🎁 Prizes – Items, activities, sporting equipment or gifts for our raffle, spot prizes, and giveaways.
👨‍🍳 Volunteer Time – Offer your time or skills to help with events and activities.

The support of even the most modest of our supporters never goes unnoticed, with features in our newsletter, social media and annual report highlighting the generous contributions we receive from our wonderfully-supportive local business communities!

If you’d like to contribute, please contact the St Michael’s Office on 📞 6331 7651 or simply email comms@stmichaels.asn.au — we’d love to hear from you.

With your help, we can’t wait to celebrate our participants’ favourite time of year! Thank you for consideration and support.

Please share through the community on our behalf 🙏
