Easter Reset 🌿

Over the Easter break, I’ll be heading into the wilderness — climbing Mount Thetis and Pelion West.

This is my time to switch off completely…
phone on airplane mode, no messages, no distractions — just space to reset, breathe, and reconnect.

I’ll be unavailable during this time and will respond to all messages when I return to work on Wednesday 8th April.

Mt Oakleigh is one of those climbs.
It’s not just about getting to the top — it asks something of you along the way. Strength, patience, and a willingness to slow down and work with what’s in front of you.

Bushwalking has taught me that not everything is meant to be pushed through. Some paths require you to pace yourself, to listen to your body, and to respect the terrain — both around you and within you.

There’s a quiet strength that builds when you move steadily instead of forcefully.
And when you do reach the top, it’s not just the view that changes — it’s you.

Why Influencers Often Miss the Mark on Lymphatic Health

There’s a lot of lymphatic content online right now — and while it’s great that awareness is growing, much of it oversimplifies how the system actually works.

Here’s where things often go wrong:

1. Treating lymphatic flow as purely mechanical
Many posts focus on techniques — tools, pressure, direction of strokes — as if lymphatic drainage is just about “moving fluid.”

In reality, lymphatic flow is regulated by the nervous system.
If the body is in a stressed, sympathetic state, drainage will be limited no matter how perfect the technique looks.

2. Ignoring anatomical pathways
The lymphatic system is highly specific:

It follows defined pathways

It drains into key junctions (particularly the clavicular region)

It requires clearing proximal areas before distal work

Skipping this or working in the wrong direction can reduce effectiveness — or simply do very little.

Social connection is not a luxury.

It’s medicine.

Regular outings, conversations, laughter and community are linked to:

My mum keeps a social calendar (in fact its always been the family joke that if you want to see Mum you have to be in the diary, and at 98.9 years of age - its still like that) — and that may be just as protective as anything in her medicine cabinet.

For example:

Tight hips → lower back pain

Restricted ankles → knee strain

Stiff thoracic spine → neck and shoulder tension

Clinical takeaway:

“The path doesn’t always take you where you planned — but it always shows you what you need to see.”

Bushwalking has taught me this over and over again.
Plans change. Tracks disappear. Weather shifts. What you thought the day would look like rarely unfolds the way you expected.

But when you let go of needing a specific outcome, something else happens — you start to notice more. The landscape, your body, your thoughts, your limits… and your strengths.

Sometimes the lesson isn’t in reaching the summit.
It’s in learning how to adapt, how to trust your judgement, and how to keep moving forward — even when the path looks different to what you had in mind.

And often, that’s where the real clarity comes from.

Photo taken from a failed attempt at Mt Thetis with the NWWC. The day of the climb the weather closed in, winds picked up and we moved camp to a more sheltered position. This was on the way down the following day in beautiful weather. I still have this on my list
