This week, Kirinari Chief Executive Officer Diane Lynch appeared before the Senate Community Affairs Committee Inquiry into the transition of the Commonwealth Home Support Programme to the new Support at Home Program.
Ms Lynch highlighted the importance of policy settings that reflect the realities of where Australians live. “Unless you expect everyone to migrate to metropolitan areas, there needs to be solutions that account for where people live. If people receive the care they need in their own home, this relieves pressure on regional hospitals,” she said.
She also emphasised the need to recognise the operational impacts of reform, noting that “the Support at Home model is more complex, and greater complexity directly translates into greater cost.”
Kirinari welcomes the opportunity to provide our regional perspective on the transition to Support at Home. We must ensure everyone can live a good life in their own home.
