A rainy day brings cooler weather perfect for putting on the dye pots. First I’m slowing down and making lake pigments with exhausted natural dye baths. These jars are pecan and brown onion exhausted dyes. Lake pigments will become watercolour paints! Stay tuned to see the entire process.

A quiet meditation: Itajime shibori (folding precisely, creating a force to resist the dye via clamps, immersing in dye) green pecan hull dye, surrendering to the alchemy, allowing myself to be still and wait in anticipation for whatever emerges from this process. Relieving pressure, the unfolding, allowing the joy of creation from pigment and pressure. Interested in a workshop?

Steep natural dyeing learning curve experimenting with green pecan hulls and acorns. So far pecan hulls give 3 distinct colours with 3 extractions, pure magic! And check how beautiful that deep brown is!!! Acorns are another favourite natural dye, this light warm brown is from my first extraction. There so needs to be an acorn emoji don’t you think?

Expressive arts journaling = You don’t have to start a new page everyday in your art journal. There are no rules this is your journal to create as you like. Sometimes I work on the same page all week. Sometimes I move between a whole lot of different pages following my curiosity. It’s your self expression. A reaching for connection, calm, self awareness. It’s not supposed to be pretty and follow design principles. Often it’s a brain dump, messy is ok!

Create daily. These two little words don’t just slide off my tongue without effort. It takes effort to insert creativity into my daily ritual, to take the time with a pencil instead of scrolling. To write a few words in a journal that feel lyrical that allow me to soften. To stop and wonder at a sunset or fallen autumn leaf, to scribble and sketch them onto a page. But art is my life line, always has been. I create daily because I have to. It’s an act of survival and thriving. Want help to make creativity a daily ritual? Message me to connect.

Each week we use different art materials and art processes for social connection, mental health support, unleash creativity, courageous self expression, self reflection and joy.

The way we start the day gives us the scaffolding for everything else the day holds. Around my 50th birthday I began daily solo morning walks. This morning movement ritual primes my parasympathetic nervous system for “calm alertness,” a scaffolding for responding to the days stressors with resiliency. Just before I arrive back home from my walk is a street perfect for foraging, so once a week I take 10 minutes to enjoy natures bounty and bring it home to incorporate into my dye pot and art.

Creativity can feel like chaos. Loss of control, facing an unknown outcome. Tuesday art group is about staying with the art process, centring curiosity. Today: we are using rocks to allow curiosity to lead.
