20/10/2021

First Choice Spinal & Sports Physiotherapy is seeking a self-motivated and passionate Physiotherapist to work in our Lawson Clinic. This will be the perfect opportunity for a new graduate or someone with more experience.

Our practice values trust, empowerment and passion for Physiotherapy. Newly graduated physiotherapists will receive mentoring and training in a friendly and supportive learning environment. This will include in-services and supervised treatment sessions, depending on your professional needs. Experienced physiotherapists will have the opportunity to participate in in-services to help with continuing professional development.

The role will enable you to build your skills and confidence working with a diverse caseload, including sports, musculoskeletal, occupational health, Workers Compensation and NDIS patients. Some home visits will be required for post-surgical patients. In addition to one-on-one physiotherapy consults, you’ll have the opportunity to lead small group exercise classes. The clinic has a private treatment room, a spacious and well equipped gym with a Pilates reformer, treadmill, rower, bike, and a wide range of weights including a squat rack.

Within the role there is access to ongoing PD opportunities and collaboration with our network of GPs, surgeons, and Exercise Physiologists.

The practice principal has 15 years of private practice experience, a postgraduate degree in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy and is trained in a range of treatment approaches including Clinical Pilates, the Mulligan Concept and the GLA:D program for knee and hip osteoarthritis.

The role is a Part-Time position, 20 hours, 2-3 days per week, with flexible work hours. Remuneration is dependent on experience but will be above award rates, and includes a generous CPD allowance provided it’s relevant to your caseload. We are looking for an immediate start, but will be flexible for the right candidate.

To ensure the health and safety of our clients, all interested candidates must be double vaccinated for COVID-19.

Applicants should forward their CV including contact details for 2 referees to firstchoicephysiotherapy@gmail.com

If you have any questions or would like to discuss the role further, please contact Jason on 0490 326 311.

Quite a turn of events for the Six Foot Track Marathon over the past few weeks. From bushfires to floods and landslides! You don't get this at many other marathons.
I reckon the show will go on, and when it does I'll be there volunteering my time as the race physiotherapist. I'll provide free, last minute treatments at the race registration. Then I'll be at the finish line fixing up the broken bodies.

Since our last update on February 5th everyone would be aware of the extreme rainfall event experienced over the last week in Sydney and the Blue Mountains. This has in turn now created new challenges in regards to our course and in particular the finish line precinct at Caves House and access to Caves House. There are landslips on both of the only 2 roads leading into Caves House and as a result, Caves House is now closed until at least February 23rd. In addition, the actual Caves House area was also heavily affected by runoff from the heavy rainfall. JCH is working around the clock to clear the area as per photos taken yesterday Thu 13 Feb 2020 attached.

We are in close consultation again with all key stakeholders in regards to the potential time it may take to clear the road landslips and ensure normal vehicle access is safe. We will continue to liaise with the key stakeholders and provide another update when we have more information.

Physiotherapy treatment, which includes exercise and advice, is still the best way to treat knee pain and many other running related injuries.
Here is a brief article about the limitations of kinesio tape. One company, "KT Tape, was found to have falsely advertised the product as able to prevent injuries and provide pain relief in May 2018, having to pay $1.75 million to consumers through a class action as a result."
In my experience kinesio tape is most likely to help when used in combination with the right exercises, the right training approach, and the right hands-on treatment.

The Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) has rejected claims made in an article in US Runner’s World magazine that the use of kinesio tape can prevent injury such as knee cap pain, also known as patellofemoral pain or ‘runner’s knee’.

Today at the , Jett shaved 8 minutes off of his last parkrun. Having arrived 5 minutes late, Jett cracked the whip, forcing Jason to break into something resembling a run! They finished in 37m35s, 99 overall, and first pram woohoo!!
Thank you to my physio, Rob Mullard at Olympic Park, for helping me to get to this point. The squats and gym work are paying off and I'm feeling much more positive. Also, I have some muscle soreness from exercise...it seems strangely familiar.

I had lunch with Winmalee legend today. He recently completed The Big Walk from Springwood to Cairns. 2700 kms over 96 days pulling a cart that weighed up to 70kg!! Greg has raised around $25K for Multiple Sclerosis Research so far.
He started walking 3 years ago to lose weight and gain fitness and has taken 32 million steps! Oh and he's 64 years young.
I got in touch with Greg after reading about his exploits in the local paper. He mentioned that his shoes had worn out and he had knee and heel pain.
So myself and Shane Simpson from Blue Mountains Running Co. supplied Greg with a brand new pair of shoes to help with his recovery. Good on you Greg! Check out his journey at

Inspired by many of the runners and walkers at the Western Sydney Marathon Festival, Jason did his first Parkrun since falling off a cliff last December. It was a brisk 5km walk at Fingal Bay with Jett. The boys set a cracking pace, finishing in 47 minutes, 94th out of 102 people and 3rd in the pram division (if that's even a thing).
It's a sharp contrast to finishing 2nd overall last July in around 21 minutes!
Jason's knee lasted the distance and should go from strength to strength and hopefully cope with running in the next few months.
But come what may, he's incredibly lucky to still be around and better to be at the back of the pack than sleeping in!
