Over the school holidays, the Child Sense team had the exciting opportunity to take part in STRW (Surviving and Thriving in the Real World) training delivered online by Amie Duncan all the way from the US 🌎💻

It was a fantastic professional learning experience, building our skills in delivering this evidence-based, neuro-affirming life skills programme for neurodivergent teens.

We’re so excited to share that Child Sense is now an accredited STRW provider and will be offering the full 15-week programme commencing in Term 2, 2026 🎉

This programme supports teens to develop practical everyday life skills, confidence, independence, and strategies to thrive in the real world.

🥷✨ Ninja Challenge: Crack the Code!
Last week in our Ninja Warrior group, children took on an obstacle course with a twist—cracking the code as they moved! 🧠💪

Moving one block at a time, they used memory, problem-solving and teamwork to match the pattern 🔍 This challenge was all about trial and error, persistence and working together 🤝

The best part? Our ninjas had so much fun they created their own codes for the therapists to crack at the end! 🔐✨

🧩✨ Visual Spatial Skills in Action!
In this peg board activity, children work on identifying overlapping pieces and using a reference image to recreate the design 🔍

By screwing the pieces into the board, they also built fine motor strength and coordination —supporting both visual spatial awareness and problem-solving through hands-on play! 🧠🔍

🎨✨ Craft & Create ✨🎨
In our Block Buddies group, craft activities are more than just fun—they’re a chance to build important skills 💛

As children cut, stick and design, they’re developing:
✂️ Fine motor skills and hand control
🧠 Planning and ideation
🎯 Attention and task persistence
🤝 Collaboration and sharing ideas

All while working together to see their creations take shape 🧱✨

💧✨ Turning play into skill-building in our Fine Motor Group! ⚽💧

This “Water Soccer” activity might look simple—but it’s packed with opportunities for development 🙌

As children blow, guide, and aim their way to goal, they’re working on:
🖐️ Hand control, precision & grading force
👀 Visual-motor coordination
🌬️ Oral motor control & breath regulation
🧠 Attention, planning & problem-solving

All while staying engaged, having fun, and connecting with peers 💙

🏎️💨 Build. Test. Fun.
Today’s Hot Wheels challenge wasn’t about winning — it was about experimenting!

Kids worked to create:
✨ the longest track
🚀 a track with airtime
🛑 a track that stops

All while practising problem-solving, flexibility, and working on winning and losing skills by noticing what's the most fun rather than what worked the best 😄
