Tongue Tie? You’re Not Alone. 💛👅

Just found out your child has a tongue tie and are feeling unsure what to do next?

We get it - it can be overwhelming. But the good news is: with the right support, many children go on to speak clearly and eat well.

A tongue tie (ankyloglossia) means the small band under the tongue is shorter or tighter than usual, affecting movement. Not all ties need treatment - what matters is how it’s affecting your child.

Ashleigh, our Speech Pathologist, has a fantastic book for supporting language development!

"Too Tall to Twirl" is a delightful children’s book that’s perfect for working on language skills. Ashleigh shares:

"I love the children's book 'Too Tall to Twirl.' It's really helpful when supporting children with their language because it helps me target action words, like 'twirl' and 'dance,' the correct tense ('The antelope twirled and flipped'), and concepts such as 'tall' and 'small.' It also encourages children to describe things in fun and creative ways, making learning language even more enjoyable!"

How many ways can you spot OT in action? 👀
🔹 Visiting you in the places your child and family play, learn and participate everyday!
🔹 Supporting with essential skills and routines including sleep and toileting.
🔹 Adapting an environment so a child can participate.
🔹 Developing independence, such as being able to unpack the shopping and make a simple snack or meal.

This we’re shining a light on those everyday wins because helping children participate is what we do. 💛
