The suffering of the world, and what we can do about it... The topic of the latest blog post wherein it is suggested where we focus our attention has a big bearing on our state of mind; and how maybe it makes good sense to stay closer to home... https://www.gawlerblog.com/2026/02/the-suffering-of-world-and-what-we-can.html

How often do we create a space in our lives for contemplation, reflection and inspiration? In our busy lives it is often the case that we have to schedule this 'non productive' time because otherwise it doesn't happen. And it's so important for keeping that inner connection with who we truly are and what makes our heart sing. ❤🙏🌿
🌿 Returning to The Inner Home: Throughout the day, if we ever find ourselves feeling anxious, restless, or unsettled, it is a gentle signal from our hearts that we have drifted away from our center. In those moments when peace feels far away, we can kindly stop and ask ourselves:
"Am I breathing with awareness right now? Am I mindful of my steps and my actions?"
Often, we discover that our minds have been swept away by a current of negative thoughts or worries about things we cannot control. When we lose our connection to the present moment, we lose our connection to peace.
By simply returning to our breath, we bring the light of mindfulness back to our hearts. This inner light—the awareness that is always within us—has the power to dissolve the shadows of negativity. As we practice returning to this light again and again, we slowly but surely cultivate a deep, lasting joy and a peace that remains steady, no matter what happens around us.
Let us be gentle with our minds today. Let us choose to return to the breath, return to the light, and return to the peace that is already waiting within.
May you and all beings be well, happy and at peace. 🙏✨
Tibetan New Year is celebrated today. It is said the benefit of any practice you do today is magnified significantly... The horse embodies movement and independence. Fre amplifies energy, creativity, and change—signalling a year of forward motion and meaningful action. May this be a year of peace, prosperity, contentment and meaning for all...

If you find yourself in the St Helen's area this weekend, join us for a beautiful kirtan (and more) celebrating Shivaratri - the night of Shiva. All welcome!
It is traditional to wear white, green, or red to represent purity, nature, and devotion, respectively. These colours help connect with the spiritual energy of Lord Shiva, with white symbolizing peace, green representing renewal, and red signifying strength. See you there! ❤🙏

The Om Choir has a new home this year and a new time. CHANGE - it's always challenging whether we choose it, or it chooses us. And now it is here, I'm thinking of it as being an adjustment period as we get used to a new rhythm.
Our first session last week was very good! Colourful, tuneful, soulful 😀
And I'm looking forward to seeing how it feels again this afternoon at this new time of Wednesdays 4.30 - 5.45 pm in the Golden Room, the room where all the best things happen!

Yoga & mindfulness are tools that help to get us out of our heads, and back into our hearts and bodies. They allow us to drop the constant ‘doing’ and take some time to simply ‘be’. Mindfulness research shows that we have around 60,000 thoughts a day, and that 90% of them we also had yesterday and the day before! Understanding the nature of the mind, and learning techniques to manage it, helps us live a more happy and balanced life.
Music: Coming together to sing, chant, or move with the peace dances, creates a positive vibration on every level - physical, mental and emotional. Melodic repetition and musical patterns are calming for the mind. Being in a group creates community and connection. Learning something new creates new neural pathways in the brain and is so good for your mental health.
About Melissa Howden (Sangita): Melissa’s background is in education as a music teacher working in schools in both Tasmania & London. Following a major sea change triggered by a health crisis in 2013, she found herself living in a yoga ashram in NSW and studying at the Gawler Cancer Foundation in Victoria. During this time Melissa came to understand the enormous part the mind plays in healing and in determining the quality of one’s whole life. This is why she now loves to share the path of yoga and mindfulness, as well as music, as ways to enhance both physical and mental wellbeing and to create a more personally meaningful life.
