National Carers Week Luncheon
As part of National Carers Week, DIBA hosted a special Carers Luncheon to recognise and thank all carers for their dedication and support. The event embraced the theme of connectedness for carers, celebrating the importance of community and shared experiences. Guests enjoyed a delicious lunch generously catered by Crowley Care, with funding support from DIBA and Carers NSW.

DIBA are delighted to announce that Karen Ulrich, owner of Café Sebastian, has been awarded our Local Community Award in Recognition of Outstanding Volunteer Service to the Ballina dementia community.
For more than five years, Karen has generously supported our group by providing a welcoming venue for our monthly Carers and Friends meetings, held on the second Monday of each month. Her kindness, community spirit, and ongoing commitment have made a real difference to carers and families affected by dementia in Ballina.
We extend our heartfelt thanks and warmest congratulations to Karen for this well-deserved recognition.

As part of Dementia Action Week, DBIA has this week presented Jeanette Dunn with our Local Community Award 2025 In Recognition of Outstanding Volunteer Service to the Ballina Dementia Community

It all started with long-time friends Jeanette and Judy Latta reconnecting through the Activity Group Facebook posts loaded by Judy. Jeanette began baking cupcakes for the group’s morning teas using ingredients from her daughter’s closed cake shop. Even after the supplies ran out, she continued to provide her delicious cupcakes. Her thoughtful gesture brings joy to members, enhancing the lives of people living with dementia and their carers.
