Now it's no secret I don't like diets, I won’t promote them, I won’t support or encourage them… and here is a little evidence as to WHY 🔎

Speaking from experience, dieting and food restriction is a slippery slope to having disordered eating patterns and it can progress into an eating disorder. Studies have found it is especially from a young age and is more common in females 😔

📈Continuously dieting may provide short term weight loss, but statistically it has been shown that you will regain the weight after completing the diet, if not more. Why do you think you feel like you are constantly dieting, trying to reach the same goal? (they don’t work, and they aren’t sustainable)

🍞Now i’m a huge carb advocate, they are my FAV macronutrient but everyone is scared of them. The Keto diet where you eat high fat and protein and low carb has been quite popular over the years but did you know that the Keto diet is there for those suffering epilepsy to help control seizures. And while it may provide short term results, you also get stuck with side effects like
😖Constipation
🥴Brain fog
😡Hangry feelings

Diets create more problems than they solve.Sure you may achieve short term weight loss, but what happens after is:
📈That weight is regained
😢You run the risk of having a poor relationship with food
⭕️Being stuck in the diet cycle where you repeat diets with the same goal over and over again.

If you are someone that is constantly dieting and food restricting with the goal of weight loss as a main focus, ask yourself WHY?

❓Why do you want to lose weight? If we can work on understanding why this is an important goal for you- there will be deeper rooted issues we can work through so you can have a peaceful relationship with food and a positive relationship with your body!

If you are ready to ditch the diets and start 2022 with more food freedom and less food stress send me a message! 🤍

This question doesn’t have a simple answer… but often if you are constantly craving those sugary foods 🍪🍩this does indicate that there is something lacking in your day to day diet.

So if you’re reading this being like (meee!!! 🙋🏼‍♀️) then have a think for me…

🍭Are you currently restricting any foods? Even food groups?

💧Are you having enough water and staying hydrated?

🍔Are you feeling satisfied after your meals?

If you are constantly craving sugary snacks then one of these aspects may be lacking. This desire for sweet snacks is often a ripple effect that is caused from dieting, so please know you aren’t unhealthy for wanting sweet snacks.

It’s not the end of the world, but it is an indication that something needs to change in what you are eating.

I have a think for me, sit and reflect and you are more than welcome to send me a message with any questions you may have. 🙌🏽

🎄Things you can start doing today to help prepare for the upcoming festive season⬇️

This time of year can bring up a lot of food stress and anxiety, especially if you are struggling with your relationship with food.

So here are 3 tips for you, that you can start implementing to make December a more peaceful experience.

1️⃣Delete your food trackers. Having these apps gone on your phones reduces the urge to use them to check your calories, or macros ect. It is easier said than done but it's a good start in removing the influence!

2️⃣Start mending your relationship with food. We have less than 3 months until the holiday season, so if we start now you will be in an amazing headspace by christmas to enjoy every memory and moment without those guilt and food stress feelings. My support is here just send me a message

3️⃣Work on being more self accepting of yourself. When you find a sense of peace with who you are, the urge to restrict foods isn’t as strong, which has a positive correlation with finding peace with food! Some ways to start this could be reading positive affirmations, clearing out your wardrobe of clothes that don’t fit you anymore, working on trying to talk to yourself more positivity.

🎄Remember christmas comes around once a year, and after the year we have had we deserve to enjoy ourselves, don’t let dieting take that away from you.

Messages are open and support is here if you need 💕

🐢slow and steady is the way to go for a more sustainable & peaceful experience with food ☺️

as much as I’d love to say that finding a peaceful relationship with food is so straightforward and it takes no time at all…I am not going to lie to you. It is a slow process and it can be hard! Especially when you are doing it on your own.

But it’s so worth it, especially once you get that feeling of what it feels like to not have any guilt or stress around food anymore.

This is one of my favourite moments to share with clients, hearing clients say

‘OMG EMILY I JUST HAD ‘X’ FOOD AND I DIDN’T OVER THINK IT AND I FEEL SO FREE! 😍😭’

“I’ve noticed a shift in my mindset a little over the last few days that isn’t so much about ‘I shouldn’t eat that, it’ll make me fat’ to being more focused on what the food is doing for my insides”

💪🏼When you have moments like those, it feels 10 times better than any diet would make you feel.

So if you're having a rough day/ week or year with your relationship with food- it’s okay! Mending these things doesn’t happen overnight ( Rome wasn’t built in a day remember 😉)

Having support through this can be really beneficial too, so when these bumps happen along the way you have that extra support to work through them and keep moving onwards and upwards! It also keeps you motivated and accountable having that support to keep going! Especially when it does take time!

I have some appointments available for next week if you want to get started working on having a peaceful & positive relationship with food! Just send me a Message or comment below!

It’s okay to want both, but you can’t focus on both at the same time.

Think about what’s most important for you ☺️

My advice though would be to try work on learning to be more self accepting of yourself now. Because if you can’t love yourself now as you are then it won’t be any easier when you are 5/10kg lighter 🤍

Have a wonderful day ☀️

Is higher protein healthier??

Protein is an amazing macronutrient for sure! But I wouldn’t say it’s the king/queen of macronutrients.

Carbs are an amazing macronutrient that got a really bad wrap in the diet industry a few years ago, I'm sure you have allll heard that carbs are bad/ cause weight gain. Which is why even to this day some of you may be thinking higher protein is better!

Yes protein is important but it’s not any better than carbs or fats or even vitamins! Every food group has its place 🙂

I used this yoghurt example today to help show you how diet culture marketing can reel you in.

I have nothing against yopro! But for those of you who get a little confused and overwhelmed with what’s good for your body, both are fine!
…..But you may feel inclined to buy the yopro with it being higher in protein (only 2g higher than the regular greek yoghurt though 😉)

Personally I would prefer a more natural yoghurt that's higher in calories + carbs to fuel my body compared to a more processed version, it’s also better for our gut health too! but if you enjoy the taste of YoPro then that's completely okay!

This is a little example of how diet culture wants to push products/ foods as healthy…when really it isn’t really all that healthier comparison!

It’s also a good example to show that counting calories/ tracking macros isn’t the healthiest way to view foods ☺️

I hope you found this interesting, and find it useful for when you go shopping next! Might save you some money too! 😄

You don’t have to be a certain size to have a summer ready body💕

With the warmer months approaching, and lockdown ending soon for us here in Melbourne I’m sensing a lot of pressure people are putting on themselves to change to be summer ready. Or even post lockdown ready 😖

I know a lot has changed this year, and maybe your body has changed with it. But be kind to yourself, you are doing the best you can to get through a pandemic 🤍

Just remember clothes are meant to fit you, you aren’t meant to fit the clothes. So if you have gone up (or down) a dress size then it’s not you fault!

So if you are currently feeling stressed, are considering dieting or restricting foods to be summer ready, please consider shifting your mindset to a more positive perspective ☀️

And if you are currently throwing around in convos about being ‘summer ready’ please be careful who around you is listening, while a lot of people don’t show their insecurities I know this is causing a fair bit of distress and anxiousness around this time of the year 💕

How we view food can affect the experience we have with it 🍪☺️

Try come from a place of acceptance next time you reach for the cookie and see if your mood/ feelings change.

Remember small steps are still a step 😁💕

Have a wonderful day ☀️

Are you currently living by food rules? ❌✅

Maybe these are some rules you thought you needed to follow to be healthy
Common ones are
☑️Watch out for carbs
☑️Eat more protein
☑️Reduce sugary foods
☑️Don’t have alcohol often

Let me start off saying you don’t need to live your life following food rules.

But what can happen when we start focusing on food rules, is that we start to create eating habits around them.

Some common eating habits are

1️⃣Not having dessert- (seen as unhealthy, bad, not needed)

2️⃣Not having carbs after a certain time (seen as unhealthy, thinks it will make you gain weight)

Sounds quite negative right? So this negativity flows into the view you have of that habit and the foods associated with it.

Which means that when you have dessert one night because you felt like it, or have carbs in your dinner, often you are left with negative feelings towards yourself, and the food that you ate 😖

While a lot of this is stemmed from diets and diet culture, where they get you is that It’s not the healthy way to live either, I mean anything that makes you feel angry, confused, guilty and frustrated isn’t healthy at all😔💕

If you are currently living with food rules, I encourage you to say YES next time instead of no! Especially when you really feel like a certain type of food, and be kind to yourself too 🤍

As always, my support is here for you when you’re ready! Just send me a message☺️

“I have no idea when I even started categorising foods”

One of my clients said this to me recently, and most of us have been brought up with an idea of what we think good foods and bad foods are.

🔺we get taught at school about the food pyramid, with the bad food at the top of the pyramid, pretty much implying that they are bad and we shouldn’t be having them often.

~While this is great to know the different health benefits between packaged/ processed foods to ‘whole foods’ it is also just fuelling our brain to make our food choices from a dieter perspective.

❌Bad foods= restrict

✅Good foods= safe to eat

And what does this end in? Most of the time a case of overeating/binging on the ‘bad foods’ we don’t allow our selves to have often enough.

➡️ followed by an influx of emotions like guilt, confusion, sadness, anger towards yourself

If you are someone who categorises foods as good vs bad, have a think about what it would feel like if we accepted food as good food and shift your language around it ☺️🙏🏼

Instead, think:
- Is it energising/ fuelling you?
-Is it satisfying your hunger?
-Are you enjoying the food?
-Are toy having enough variety?

These things are what matter most!

And lastly, you should ever feel like you need to justify what you choose to eat ☺️🤍
