Halloween at TFK = creativity, laughter and a whole lot of team spirit!๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ‘ป

Our crew brought the costumes, the characters and the spooky good energy to the clinic on 31 October.

We love celebrating moments together, trying new things, being silly, and creating an environment where joy and connection are part of every day.

When our team feels supported and has fun together, it shines through in the way we show up for our kids and families ๐Ÿ’›โœจ

Happy Halloween from the TFK family ๐ŸŽƒ๐ŸŒˆ

Happy OT week everyone!! ๐Ÿค๐ŸŒˆ

๐Ÿ–๏ธ Before children learn to write letters and words, they first learn to draw the shapes that form them!

These are called pre-writing shapes, the lines, curves, and patterns like vertical lines, circles, crosses, and squares that make up the building blocks of handwriting. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐ŸŒˆ

โœ๏ธ Why they matter:

Pre-writing shapes help children develop the hand strength, control, and movement patterns needed for writing. Each shape supports skills like coordination, visual-motor planning, and pencil control. ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿค

๐Ÿ‘ถ The learning journey:
Children usually move through stages, from random scribbles โžœ to imitating โžœ to copying โžœ to drawing shapes independently. Supporting each stage builds confidence and sets them up for writing success later on.

Every child develops at their own pace, and thatโ€™s perfectly normal โค๏ธ โœจ If your child is still mastering these early shapes, activities like drawing, tracing in sand, painting, or playing with playdough can make it fun! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐ŸŒˆ

โœจ Shelbyโ€™s School Holiday Intensive โœจ

Shelby recently completed a two-week Physio and Exercise Physiology Intensive โ€” focusing on strength, balance, confidence, and independence through fun, play-based therapy.

Her goals for this block included:
๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ Cruising along walls and surfaces with control
๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ Taking independent steps between furniture
๐ŸŒˆ Walking up an incline using her walker

Each goal came to life through creative, goal-based activities โ€” from cruising on sensory mats and balance beams to stepping between furniture in the Enliten harness and tackling inclines on the driveway and grass for endurance.

Every step built Shelbyโ€™s confidence, strength, and independence โ€” one goal at a time. ๐Ÿ’ช
Weโ€™re so proud of the amazing progress sheโ€™s made this intensive! ๐ŸŒŸ

AAC (Augmentative & Alternative Communication) isnโ€™t just a device, itโ€™s a powerful tool we use in speech therapy to help children understand, learn and express language in the way that works best for them. ๐Ÿ˜Š๐ŸŒˆ

Hereโ€™s how AAC supports speech development:

โœ… Teaches vocabulary and sentence structure
โœ… Builds understanding of language (not just talking!)
โœ… Supports turn-taking and social interaction
โœ… Reduces frustration and behaviours from not being understood.

From picture cards to high-tech devices, AAC gives children confidence, independence and a voice.
Every child deserves a way to communicate. ๐Ÿ’›
