Our House family meet Willow Rankin🌼
Willow is an inspiring young woman making a difference in her community through her volunteer work.
Willow began volunteering with the Quota Alstonville Inc at their craft fair after hearing about the group from her boss at the café where she works. A passionate quilter and lover of all things craft, she knew it was the perfect fit.
After learning about the Alstonville Quota ladies’ support of Our House, Willow was inspired to make quilts for babies in the Special Care Nursery. These handmade quilts are a beautiful and heartfelt gift for parents staying at Our House while their babies grow strong enough to go home.
This gesture is especially meaningful for Willow, who once received a quilt herself while she was unwell in hospital. “What goes around really does come around,” she says.
Willow encourages other young people to get involved in volunteering. “I enjoy helping out and meeting lots of people. It was a bit daunting at first, but once I got to know everyone it was fun,” she shared. “It would be really good if there were volunteer opportunities aimed at young people because we often feel more comfortable in a group of our own age.”
Quilting also helps Willow manage the stress of her HSC studies. A self-confessed history buff who also loves electronics, she plans to pursue an apprenticeship as an electrician after school, hoping to use her skills to travel the world and explore her passion for history.
We wish Willow every success in her future endeavours. With her compassion, creativity and determination, there’s no doubt she will achieve great things.
Thank you to the Quota Alstonville for being incredibly inspirational to us all x
