Professor Josephine Chow was invited by the Chair of the World Congress of Nephrology Scientific Committee to present primary outcome data at WCN 2026 in Japan, a global congress attended by over 6,000 delegates from 130 countries.

Her presentation highlighted TEACH-PD, the first large nurse-led cluster randomised controlled trial, supported by $4.7M in competitive grant funding. Delivered in the High Impact Clinical Trial (Late Breaking) Session in the Main Hall, the study was very well received, with strong feedback recognising both its scale and rigorous design.

TEACH-PD at a glance

• 1,462 patients across Australia and New Zealand

• 94 investigators across 42 PD clusters

• Collaborators: ANZDATA Registry, NZ PD Registry, Western Sydney University

• Partners include AKTN and The HOME Network

South Western Sydney Local Health District was the top recruiting site globally. A strong example of the impact of nursing-led research and international collaboration on the global stage.

A significant step forward for cancer care in NSW.

The announcement of the Australian Centre for Cancer Equity (AcCE) by the Minns Government marks an important milestone in addressing the unequal burden of cancer across our communities.

Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research has established AcCE in partnership with the NSW Government - via the South Western Sydney Local Health District and Cancer Institute NSW.

Cancer does not affect all people equally. Where you live, your cultural background, language, income and access to care can shape every stage of the cancer journey. AcCE has been established to bring together researchers, clinicians, policymakers and communities to drive more equitable outcomes through data informed, community centred research and strong collaboration. Backed by the NSW Government, this initiative is focused on ensuring that no one is left behind in access to high quality cancer care.

This is equity in action. A major step toward ensuring the benefits of cancer research and innovation are shared by all communities.

Today, the Ingham Institute Postdoctoral Association hosted a Lunch & Learn with final-year PhD candidate Namitha Thomas, sharing research that brings attention to an often-overlooked area of women’s health.

Did you know perimenopause and menopause can impact oral health?

Despite the risks to quality of life, this connection is rarely discussed.
Namitha’s research explores the oral health experiences of women during this stage of life and highlights the important role non-dental healthcare providers can play in improving awareness and care.

Namitha Thomas is a final-year PhD candidate at the Australian Centre for Integrated Oral Health (ACIOH) and an overseas-trained dentist with a strong research focus on oral health promotion and women’s health.

Earlier this month, we marked the six-month milestone of the Perich Centre for Robotics and Health Technology at Ingham Institute.

It was a pleasure to welcome the Perich family and share the Centre’s progress through a series of presentations and live demonstrations from our researchers.

▪ Dr. Sharon Kay and Dr. Hao Tran showcased innovations from the Heart Lab, including remote ultrasound, advanced imaging, and training initiatives.

▪ Terry Carney demonstrated teleproctoring technology, enabling real-time collaboration between interventional cardiologists and surgical teams.

▪ Dr. Lauren Christie presented exoskeleton technology supporting post-stroke rehabilitation.

Together, these projects highlight how the Centre is advancing innovative technologies to improve access, outcomes, and equity in care.

The Perich family’s support has made this facility possible, helping drive meaningful innovation and bridge gaps in healthcare across our community.
