Congratulations to Dr Tianqi Xu on an extraordinary year of achievement.

An early career neurologist from China and a second year PhD student in Professor Mark Parsons’ group, Tianqi has been recognised nationally and internationally for her research excellence and leadership.

🏆In August, she was awarded the Laurel Scholarship for Emerging Leaders in Medical Science from the Australia China Alumni Association, recognising her contribution to China Australia multicentre clinical collaboration.

🏆In September, she received the Best Special Abstract Award for her oral presentation at the Asia Pacific Stroke Conference in Japan. She was one of only four recipients worldwide and the only awardee from an Australian institution.

🏆In November, Tianqi was awarded the Franklin Women Carer’s Scholarship 2026. Only six researchers were funded nationwide and she was the only recipient from UNSW.

🏆In December, she was honoured with the Rising Star of the Year Award 2025 at the Ingham Institute's End of Year Celebration.

We are proud to celebrate Tianqi’s dedication to advancing stroke research and improving patient outcomes through collaboration and innovation.

Today is the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

We’re celebrating the incredible achievements of women in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), while also raising awareness of the persistent gaps in representation and equality across these fields.

Today, we shine a spotlight on the women who lead and shape the Australian Centre of Cancer Equity. Led by Professor Wei Chua, the program is dedicated to addressing disparities and advancing equitable cancer treatment and care for all.

Right now, the Government's funding for medical research is falling far short of what should be possible.

Only 65% of the available funding is being released each year, restricting the potential of Australian medical research in developing lifesaving discoveries and groundbreaking treatments.

Dr Monique Ryan MP has launched an email campaign calling for the full release of the MRFF (Medical Research Future Fund). The campaign generates individual emails directly to the Federal Treasurer, Finance Minister and Minister for Health.

Please see this webpage with the full details: https://www.moniqueryan.com.au/medical_research_matters.

We’re taking steps to make cancer treatment equitable for all Australians.

Every Tuesday from 27 January to 10 February, CanRevive Inc. 更生會, a cancer support service supporting culturally and linguistically diverse communities, particularly Australian Chinese individuals, has partnered with Ingham Institute and South Western Sydney Local Health District to deliver accessible workshops aimed at improving equity in cancer treatment and care.

Today’s workshop focuses on Cancer Council NSW and cancer related hospital support services, as well as integrative cancer care and wellness programs.

Next week’s workshops will cover common side effects of cancer and treatment, coping strategies, and an introduction to cancer genomics.
