INTRODUCING ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR NILES

Associate Professor Niles is an accomplished Endocrine and Head & Neck Surgeon specialising in thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal and salivary gland surgery. He is a full member of the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons and Australia and New Zealand Endocrine Surgeons. He is on the International Organising Faculty of the 2nd and 3rd World Congress of Thyroid Cancer.

He is the head of translational research in thyroid and head & neck cancer at the Ingham Institute for Applied Medical Research and Western Sydney University. He has a keen interest in teaching and is the supervisor of surgical training for the southern rotation for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

He received his medical degree from the University of New South Wales and undertook basic surgical training at Royal Prince Alfred hospital. Advanced surgical training was based at Liverpool Hospital. He received his Fellowship to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons followed by two further years of post-graduate training in Endocrine and Head & Neck Surgery.

Having pioneered robot-assisted thyroid surgery in Australia, he is the most experienced surgeon in the removal of the thyroid with no neck incision. He has set the benchmark in scar-less neck thyroid surgery. This allows him to offer patients a wider spectrum of care from the traditional open thyroid/parathyroid operations to minimally invasive and scarless neck surgery. Most importantly this gives patients more autonomy and greater choice. He performs over 400 endocrine procedures annually.
