Today, we celebrate the incredible Hearing Assistance Dogs that bring independence, confidence, and companionship to Australians who are Deaf or hard of hearing. Join us in recognising their life-changing impact! 🎉

To close out National Hearing Dog Day, we’re proud to share the final story in our series—Dawn and Earnest. After living with hearing loss for more than 40 years, Dawn finally took the step to apply for a Hearing Assistance Dog. From the moment Earnest entered her life, everything began to change.

Whether it’s alerting her to the oven timer, doorbell, or her grandson’s voice, or giving her the confidence to reconnect with everyday life—like food shopping, medical appointments, and community events—Earnest has given Dawn a renewed sense of independence.

“Earnest means everything to me. I am so thankful that he came into my life.”
This life-changing partnership was made possible thanks to the generous support of Specsavers Australia, who proudly sponsored Earnest through his entire journey—from playful pup to fully accredited Hearing Assistance Dog. Thank you for joining us in supporting 's 100K your way fundraiser!
Your generosity means that kids just like Darcy can grow up living the life they choose.

When Darcy was just a year old, he was diagnosed with ocular albinism, a form of albinism that causes vision impairment. Despite being a genetic condition, its rarity meant no one in the family had experience with low vision or knew what kind of support he would need. This all changed when he was referred to Vision Australia.

Taking on the 100K Your Way challenge, Carly and her husband, Troy, created “Darcy’s Village”, a team full of Darcy’s loved ones. They’re participating to give back to Vision Australia, supporting other families just like theirs.

At Specsavers, we believe everyone deserves the right to the best possible sight and Vision Australia helps those with low vision to achieve this and live the life they choose as well as supporting families through times of change and uncertainty.
