Logan Hospital

Logan Hospital We’re the major public healthcare centre for the City of Logan, Queensland.

Logan Hospital is the major health centre for one of the fastest growing regions in the state. We have grown from a 48-bed community hospital in 1990 to a 448-bed hospital today, mirroring the rapid growth in population in the Logan region. We provide acute medical, surgical, rehabilitation, maternity, cardiology, orthopaedics, renal and other specialty services for children and adults. We're the location of Queensland's largest ever hospital expansion project on an existing hospital site—with a total capital investment of more than one billion dollars. In the coming years, the hospital will increase in size by almost half, with a significant increase in beds and treatment spaces across several new wards and a range of expanded support services.

A kind donation of 12 wooden digital photo frames is helping bring comfort to patients in the Palliative Care ward at Logan Hospital. 🖼️

Gordon Pink was the first patient to receive a frame, just in time for Christmas. He was thrilled to be able to look at photos of family and special memories from his hospital bed.

The frames will soon be set up across Ward 3C so all palliative care patients can enjoy seeing photos of their loved ones during their stay. ❤️

An early Christmas present arrived at Logan Hospital at 12:39 am to mum, Isuri Fernando and dad Menura Desilva.

Baby girl, Yael arrived early with an unplanned caesarean section just after midnight with Santa himself doing the honours.

Christmas cheers to the midwives and Dr Bruce Chaun who swept in to deliver the baby, also dressing up as Santa in the early hours of Christmas morning for rounds with mums and bubs. 🎁

We're wishing everyone a happy and safe festive season ❤️

May it bring happiness and joy to you and your loved ones. Stay safe and well, from all of us at Metro South Health.

Just one day out from his big around-the-world trip, Santa Claus has stopped by Logan Hospital's neonatal unit, spreading festive cheer among its tiniest and most vulnerable patients. 🎅

Despite his jam-packed schedule, the big man in red made a special journey from the North Pole to visit (and snap some keepsake photos with) the families of 2N, helping them celebrate their bubs' first Christmas. ❤️

The Christmas spirit was in full voice across Logan and Beaudesert Health Service as teams went all out in our carol-themed decorating competition! 🎄🎶

Teams embraced Christmas carols as the theme, with many choosing to put their own spin on The Twelve Days of Christmas. With more than 40 entries on display, the judges had an almost impossible job choosing a winner.

👏 Winner: Ward 5A/5B
🌟 Highly Commended: Anaesthetics, Palliative Care, Children’s Inpatient Unit, Birth Suites, CSD/Psychology
✨ Special Mention: Stomal Therapy & Wound Management, Ward 2H, Peri-Operative Services, Neonatal Inpatient Unit

And a separate thank you to the many staff who dressed up throughout December - your festive outfits and good cheer helped brighten the days of our patients and each other across our facilities. ❤️

🌡️ Heatwave conditions are forecast for the region today and in the coming days. 🌡️
Here's some advice from our friends at Queensland Health:
👉 Stay hydrated. Drink water (between 6-8 glasses each day).
👉 Stay out of the sun.
👉 Avoid or reduce strenuous activities.
👉 Remain indoors (preferably in air-conditioning). If you don’t have air conditioning at home, find somewhere like the shops, movies or library.
👉 Look after others (like the elderly, pregnant or young kids).
👉 Don’t leave children or pets in parked cars.
👉 Store food and medication at a safe temperature.
👉 Plan ahead if the electricity goes out.
👉 If you have to go outside, be sun safe by wearing a hat, long sleeves and light clothing, seeking shade where possible and applying sunscreen every two hours.
Extreme heat can affect anybody. It can also make existing medical conditions worse and can cause heat-related illness.
If you, or a person you know is showing signs of heat stroke, call 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84) for advice or visit your doctor. If it is an emergency, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Move over Dasher and Dancer, Noodle and Pedro have taken centre stage in the Children’s Inpatient Unit at Logan Hospital! 🦙✨

The alpaca duo trotted in this week, bringing smiles and laughter to young patients needing a welcome distraction from hospital life.

First to meet the four-legged visitors was nine-year-old Henry, who even scored a whiskery kiss on the forehead from one of his new furry friends.

Originally from Tonga, Henry had never seen alpacas before, making the visit an extra special surprise as he recovers on the ward following chemotherapy treatment for a brain tumour.

18-year-old Tanesha Lees was also delighted by a bedside visit, with Pedro clearly enjoying the attention just as much as she did.

Acting Nurse Unit Manager Emma Flannelly said these visits are always a hit, bringing moments of joy, comfort and connection to patients during challenging times.

We asked everyone’s favourite question, ‘give us a fun fact’. 🫠

When the team at Meadowbrook Health Centre Minor Injury and Illness Clinic (MHCMIIC) aren’t searching for their next golden-brown pastry, they’re providing care and compassion to patients at the clinic. 🫶

MHCMIIC opened earlier this year. It treats injuries and illness that aren’t life-threatening.

You can visit for:
👉 sprains and strains
👉 minor burns and scalds
👉 fevers, coughs and colds
👉 grazes and splinters
👉 insect bites and stings
👉 foreign objects in the ears or nose
👉 minor infections.

The clinic is open 8am to 10pm, 7 days a week.

If your injury or illness is life-threatening, you should always call Triple Zero (000) or visit an emergency department. 🏥

Logan Hospital’s perioperative team has launched a new model of care to support surgical patients with complex medical and social needs.

The team now takes over care for some post-operative patients once their acute surgical issues have resolved, allowing surgeons to focus on new acute cases while patients receive coordinated, proactive medical management.

Director of Perioperative Medicine Dr Rajesh Gupta said the new approach is already making a difference.

“It means earlier recognition and treatment of complications, smoother discharge planning, and better outcomes for patients and their families,” she said.

This collaborative initiative, supported by surgical, medical, geriatric, and allied health teams, marks an exciting step forward in improving care for our most complex patients. 💙

Our Story

Logan Hospital is the major health centre for one of the fastest growing regions in the state. We have grown from a 48-bed community hospital in 1990 to a 448-bed hospital today, mirroring the rapid growth in population in the Logan region. Services we provide We provide acute medical, surgical, rehabilitation, maternity, cardiology, orthopaedics, renal and other specialty services for children and adults. As part of our commitment to performing more elective surgery, in early 2014, we opened our eighth surgical theatre. The new theatre has allowed us to perform an average of 12-15 major cases to 40-50 minor operations each week. In late 2014, Logan Hospital opened our doors to a brand new multi-storey building as part of our $152.3M expansion project. The first stages of this project included a new co-located adult’s and children’s emergency department, an expanded children’s inpatient ward and a new 24-bed rehabilitation unit. A new cardiac catheter laboratory will also be built, allowing up to 800 local residents with heart conditions to be treated closer to home. Education As a teaching hospital, we help train future health care professionals and participate in research through strong partnerships with Queensland’s leading tertiary institutions. In the 2014-2015 financial year, there were: 60,803 patients admitted to the hospital 75,982 presentations to the emergency department 39,835 outpatient appointments 3,319 babies born. Logan Hospital employs more than 1921 staff, making it the largest employer in Logan City.
