Logan Hospital

Logan Hospital We’re the major public healthcare centre for the City of Logan, Queensland.

Logan Hospital is the major health centre for one of the fastest growing regions in the state. We have grown from a 48-bed community hospital in 1990 to a 448-bed hospital today, mirroring the rapid growth in population in the Logan region. We provide acute medical, surgical, rehabilitation, maternity, cardiology, orthopaedics, renal and other specialty services for children and adults. We're the location of Queensland's largest ever hospital expansion project on an existing hospital site—with a total capital investment of more than one billion dollars. In the coming years, the hospital will increase in size by almost half, with a significant increase in beds and treatment spaces across several new wards and a range of expanded support services.

Love is in the air on Ward 2M this Valentine’s Day ❤️

Patients on the ward woke up to a handmade Valentine’s Day card, created by the caring nursing team. For many who are away from their families, this small act of kindness was a reminder that they are not alone.

Nurses also helped patients write their own cards to send to loved ones and some even wore special Valentine’s Day scrubs to bring extra colour and cheer to the ward.

Nurse Unit Manager Sheena Varghese said the team wanted to make their patients feel extra special.

We think they did just that 💕

Tag someone below to wish them a Happy Valentine’s Day and help us share the love! 💌

Community Service Announcement

Metro South Health’s Public Health Unit is advising that a bat found at Victoria Point Lakeside Shopping Centre on Tuesday, 10 February 2026 has tested positive for Australian bat lyssavirus (ABLV).

The risk to the wider community is low. However, anyone who had direct contact with the bat should call 13 HEALTH (13 43 25 84) as soon as possible for assessment.

ABLV is a rare but serious virus, similar to rabies, that can be transmitted through bites or scratches. Residents are reminded never to touch bats or flying foxes, even if they appear sick or injured.

Please ensure children understand they must not touch bats. If children are bitten or scratched by a bat, they should be encouraged to tell their parents, teacher or another responsible adult immediately. Please make sure children know they will not get into trouble.

If you find an injured bat, contact RSPCA Queensland on 1300 ANIMAL or your local wildlife care group.

Meet Emily - one of Logan Hospital's new Flow Initiative Nurses. 👋

A FIN Nurse helps keep things moving by getting patients out of the waiting room and into beds, supporting handovers, helping organise discharges and transfers, directing ambulance crews to the right area, and arranging transport when needed.

There are now three roles dedicated to patient flow within Logan's Emergency Department, along with new initiatives which are helping patients receive care faster and return home sooner. 🏠

Last year the hospital also launched its award-winning Women’s Hub - a purpose-built space and model of care designed specifically for women presenting with sensitive or intimate health concerns.

The women’s hub is one of several redesigned spaces in the ED that are improving patient experiences.

Another is Queensland’s first dedicated Geriatric Emergency Medicine Unit, which supports the growing number of older patients presenting to Logan’s ED.

The introduction of new roles, new services, and improvements to the physical environment have made a tangible difference to how quickly patients move through the department - well done to everyone at Logan Hospital! 💙

Stop for a quick ‘guess the sound’ challenge with Georgia.👂🔊

Plus, you get a little behind-the-scenes at Logan Hospital’s Children's Inpatient Unit. This unit is where our team look after kids from tiny newborns right through to 16 years old.

With 24 inpatient beds and spaces designed for comfort, our unit is all about making hospital stays feel a little easier for children and their families.

How many can you guess right? 🤗

Meet Di - she's a cleaner in Logan Hospital's emergency department.👋

Before starting at Logan six years ago, she moved around a lot and worked in many different jobs.

'I guess you could call me a bit of a gypsy!' Di said.

'I've worked in a dress shop and in aged care. I've also been a barmaid, housekeeper and laundry supervisor.

'Over the last 54 years working in many jobs, this would have to be the most rewarding one.'

Di mostly works in the paediatric (children's) section of the ED, making sure the area is always clean and safe for patients and their carers. She's often called to other parts of the ED to clean rooms and beds after patients are discharged. 🪣🧽

'I love working in ED. As you can imagine, no one day is the same, which makes it an exciting job,' Di said.

Di also loves the people she works with every day, calling them her 'best mates'. From day one she's always been made to feel part of the team. 🤗

'When I first started in ED, I was talking to a nurse and introduced myself,' Di said.

'I told her, "I’m Di. I’m just one of your cleaners." Her reply was, "No, you're not just a cleaner. You're a very important part of our team."'

And she's right, Di! Thanks to you and all the hard-working cleaning staff across Queensland Health. 🫶

💙 Queensland’s smallest-ever baby, Charlie Jones, has celebrated an incredible 100 days with Logan Hospital’s neonatal team. 💙

Born more than three months early and weighing just 360 grams, Charlie spent his first 83 days in Mater’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit before transferring to Logan Hospital’s neonatal unit for ongoing care.

The celebration came with extra special news — Charlie was heading home for the very first time just hours later. 🏡✨

Once too delicate to hold, this “cheeky” little fighter now loves hand-holding and head tickles.

Congratulations to Charlie and his wonderful parents, Samantha and Nick, on this amazing milestone. 💙👶

A huge congratulations to Shiree McGinnis from Logan Hospital for being named Addiction and Mental Health Service (AMHS) Nurse of the Year in 2025. 👏

Shiree said it was a placement during her final year of study that helped her discover a passion for mental health nursing.

Since then, her approach to nursing has continued to grow, shaped by experience, research, and reflection.

“Over time, I’ve learned how important it is to look at the whole person and consider their physical health, environment, family, and strengths, not just their diagnosis," she said.

For Shiree, effective mental health nursing relies on teamwork, inclusion, and strong communication. She said the best outcomes are achieved through shared decision-making between clinicians, patients, and their families. ❤️

Thank you for all that you do Shiree!

Our Story

Logan Hospital is the major health centre for one of the fastest growing regions in the state. We have grown from a 48-bed community hospital in 1990 to a 448-bed hospital today, mirroring the rapid growth in population in the Logan region. Services we provide We provide acute medical, surgical, rehabilitation, maternity, cardiology, orthopaedics, renal and other specialty services for children and adults. As part of our commitment to performing more elective surgery, in early 2014, we opened our eighth surgical theatre. The new theatre has allowed us to perform an average of 12-15 major cases to 40-50 minor operations each week. In late 2014, Logan Hospital opened our doors to a brand new multi-storey building as part of our $152.3M expansion project. The first stages of this project included a new co-located adult’s and children’s emergency department, an expanded children’s inpatient ward and a new 24-bed rehabilitation unit. A new cardiac catheter laboratory will also be built, allowing up to 800 local residents with heart conditions to be treated closer to home. Education As a teaching hospital, we help train future health care professionals and participate in research through strong partnerships with Queensland’s leading tertiary institutions. In the 2014-2015 financial year, there were: 60,803 patients admitted to the hospital 75,982 presentations to the emergency department 39,835 outpatient appointments 3,319 babies born. Logan Hospital employs more than 1921 staff, making it the largest employer in Logan City.
