This is so true. In our modern world we over schedule every minute of the day~ for ourselves and our children. The best things are realised and achieved when we leave time to dream, think and play. Let there be time for boredom so that the brain can fill the space with creativity, intuition and innovation.

Free play should be a huge part of your child’s life. It contributes to cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development. But importantly for this conversation, self-directed play increases creativity. A study of 5-6 year olds showed that preschoolers who participated in a simple 75-minute play session per week had higher verbal and graphic creativity scores at the end of the school year, and they also had better-developed creative personality traits and behaviors.

Not only is play related to greater creativity and imagination, but also to higher reading levels and IQ scores. Based on the evidence, the equation consistently comes out as play = learning. In 1974, scientist Art Fry dreamed up the idea of Post-It notes during a non-traditional work setup at 3M. 3M’s 15 percent program, launched in 1948 and extended to every employee on the technical team, allowed 3M employees to daily take a chunk of their own workday to follow whatever they are interested in. Google and Hewlett Packard also offer personal creative time—these methods seem most effective in a creative culture, where employees can present their work to each other and aim to impress.

Since free play is the natural way that children explore the world, the time children devote to daily creative play should be much, much higher. Along these same lines, don't overschedule your child. If every moment is spent in a directed activity, there’s no time to simply free play, no time to try things out on their own terms, and therefore no time to make their own new neural connections.

Re-sharing this as it is incredibly important to rest well.

The importance of being well supported while you are sleeping .... Notice the points of stress in the top image picturing an unsupported spine; and the green happy sections below showing a straight and supported spine during rest.
Our rest time is valuable time that we need for our bodies to repair and rejuvenate for the next day.
Our recommendation is to make sure you have a supportive bed to suit your individual needs so that you can rest well. We can offer more advice, just ask us....

Easing of restrictions:
I wish to thank all my patients for their understanding and support in these difficult times, when the normal care that you have been able to receive has been limited.

In Stage 4 restrictions we have only been able to treat patients for emergency type treatment.

As of Monday 28th September 2020, All Ahpra registered allied health professions will be able to provide face to face care :
(Quoted from Safer care Victoria - announcement by Premier Daniel Andrews and Minister for Health Jenny Mikakos.)

to prevent a significant deterioration in functional independence which would result in an escalation of care needs (such as increased frequency in treatment, significant increase in pain, specialist input, or substantial increase in recovery time as a result of delayed care).
for assessment and diagnostic purposes for those people whose care has been delayed in stage 4 restrictions, and where further delay is likely to result in deterioration (eg: diagnostic imaging and assessment for prescription of assistive technology).
to provide essential pre-operative or post-operative elective surgery care.
Other healthcare providers, such as myotherapy, naturopathy or remedial massage therapy will also be able to provide face to face services which would prevent a significant deterioration in functional independence resulting in escalation of care needs(such as increased frequency in treatment, significant increase in pain, specialist input, or substantial increase in recovery time as a result of delayed care) for those people who are on an endorsed care plan.
In plain language this means that if you are in pain and your condition is stopping you from carrying out your daily activities, or you perceive that your condition is escalating or getting worse, you are entitled to seek treatment.

I would encourage you to call if you feel that you are in need of treatment, especially if you fit into the criteria described above, so that we can discuss your health care needs.

Vagal breathing taps into your autonomic nervous system and has been reported to have positive benefits to health and wellbeing. Vagal breathing has also been referred to as diaphragmatic breathing or belly breathing. Vagal breathing can be done any where, I personally found it useful just before a major exam. So breathe in for 4 seconds, hold for 7 seconds, and breathe out slowly for 8 seconds. Repeat for about 10 breaths. This exercise takes around 3 minutes to do. This form of breathing can be hard to do at first, but keep practicing, it will be worth it. Xiao Ma et al. 2017. The effects of diaphragmatic breathing on attention, negative affect and stress in healthy adults.

Today I not only was able to do my job as a chiropractor for one of my lovely patients but I also was able to help her within stage 4 restrictions. I am sure that there are many practitioners out there hurting financially because they are actually obeying what is law at the moment. There is a lot that we can do via Telehealth or video call. This morning one of my patients called saying she had to see me because she had such a sore neck. I called her back with a video call where it became obvious that her pain was not an emergency and in fact could be managed with some Myo fascial release techniques that I taught her how to do via the video call. This evening, she called me and excitedly told me that the pain was gone!!!! We, as chiropractors can help people even over the phone if we only try!!!!
