Thank you, North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation!
We’re proud to share that Engedi Mackay has been selected as a recipient of the 2025–26 NQBP Community Fund!
This generous support will help us continue our work with U-Beach, improving beach access so everyone can enjoy time by the water.
As our Physiotherapist Helen Robinson explains:

“Engedi has supported people with disability in our region for more than forty years. This sponsorship helps us invest in pathways, beach wheelchairs and other mobility equipment that remove barriers for people with mobility challenges. More families, seniors and people with disability will be able to visit the beach together.”

With this backing, we can strengthen partnerships with volunteers and community groups to run regular beach days and create a more inclusive experience across the region.

A huge thank you to North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation for making this possible and supporting initiatives that make a real difference in our community.

Inclusive sports programs play a vital role in promoting physical and mental health for people with disabilities by encouraging regular exercise, which enhances strength, coordination, and emotional well-being.
These programs also foster meaningful social interaction, helping individuals build friendships and develop social skills in a supportive environment. Participation boosts self-esteem and confidence through teamwork and goal achievement, while also breaking down societal and cultural barriers by promoting understanding and acceptance.
Additionally, inclusive sports strengthen community connections and lead to positive social outcomes such as increased engagement, volunteering, and even career opportunities, making them a powerful tool for inclusion and empowerment.

Occupational Therapists: Champions of Independence
Occupational Therapists are dedicated professionals who empower individuals to live more independently, regardless of age or ability. Whether someone is navigating life with a disability, recovering from injury, or simply striving to do more on their own, OTs provide practical, tailored support to help people take charge of their daily lives.
What does an OT do to promote independence?
• Evaluate routines and identify challenges that may limit autonomy at home, school, or work.
• Design personalised approaches to help individuals perform everyday tasks like bathing, preparing meals, or managing time.
• Suggest tools, technology, or environmental changes that make activities safer and more manageable.
• Support emotional resilience and self-confidence, helping people feel capable and in control.
• Collaborate with families, carers, and support networks to create a consistent and empowering environment.
At Engedi Inc., our OTs are committed to helping clients:
• Strengthen practical life skills for greater self-reliance
• Modify spaces to better suit personal needs and preferences
• Introduce adaptive strategies and assistive devices
• Encourage growth, confidence, and independence in every aspect of life
