Busy week for me this week. Getting out of my comfort zone and walking more purposefully.
On Monday, I had the privilege of joining Healthy Yarns in Mackay on 105.9 with Dr Sarah and Dr Shannon for a powerful conversation around stress through a First Nations lens of social and emotional wellbeing.
It was such a grounded and meaningful yarn about what stress can really look like in people’s lives and what it takes to stay strong through it.
One of the biggest things we explored was that stress is not always just an individual experience. Sometimes it is shaped by systems, environments, disconnection, and the broader pressures people are carrying. We also spoke about the difference between coping and true wellbeing, and the importance of reconnecting with what helps us reset when life starts to feel overwhelming.
What I really loved about the conversation was the depth and flexibility of the lenses we used. There was space for shared experiences, reflections, client work, personal perspectives on connection, success stories, and small pivots that people can begin to make in their own lives.
Because this work is not about quick fixes or surface level advice. It is about understanding wellbeing in a way that reflects who we are, where we come from, what shapes us, and what helps keep us strong.
Whether you are carrying a lot yourself, supporting someone else, or simply wanting to deepen your understanding, mental health matters and our own wellbeing matters.
A big thank you to 105.9, Dr Sarah, and Dr Shannon for inviting me in for this April Stress Awareness Month conversation. I’m really grateful to have been part of it. And even though Dr Sarah and Dr Shannon are family, that only makes it even more meaningful to be able to come together in this way, have these conversations, and use our voices to create something that matters.
Be the change you want to see.
