Eyes R Us offers you friendly, complete, professional optometric eye care. We are an established optometry practice, opened in 1997 at Mount Pleasant Shopping Centre and now located at North Mackay Central, 25-29 Evans Avenue. Staffed by optometrists, Dr Brad Kirkwood and Dr Natasha (Tash) with an experienced team of optical dispensers, we pride ourselves in working with you to ensure you have high quality eye care. With a combined experience of over 30 years in eye care, Brad and his team will help you select eyewear that suits your eyes and lifestyle, with the latest fashions and lens technology. Your local optometrist is Dr. Brad Kirkwood. Brad has over 15 years’ experience in ophthalmic care and brings a diverse knowledge and clinical expertise to his optometric practice. He has a Bachelor of Nursing from Central Queensland University and a Certificate in Ophthalmic Nursing from the Sydney Eye Hospital. He has achieved a Master of Arts Degree in Practitioner Development (Ophthalmic Practice Route) from Manchester Metropolitan University, England. He has worked as an Ophthalmic Nurse Practitioner at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, England and Flinders Medical Centre, Adelaide, pioneering the role for Australia. He was awarded a Foundation Fellowship from Australia College of Nurse Practitioners for his contribution to establish and evolve the role of a nurse practitioner in Australia. He was also awarded the prestigious Edna Ashy Award in recognition of the contribution made to expand Ophthalmic nursing knowledge and literature from the American Society of Ophthalmic Nurses in 2011. He attained a Bachelor of Applied Science Degree (Optometry) (Honours) and Graduate Certificate in Ocular Therapeutics from Queensland University of Technology. He was a lecturer at Flinders University Optometry and Vision Science academic team establishing the new optometry course. He purchased Eyes R Us in 2012. He has many peer-reviewed journal publications in ophthalmic nursing, ophthalmology, optometry, medical journals and a chapter on cornea in the ophthalmic care textbook. He has a special interest in clinical skills, ocular anatomy, ocular diseases and ocular therapeutics. He is a member of the Optometry Association and Australian College of Optometry.

Eye Examinations for All Ages

Eyes R Us offers comprehensive eye examinations for all ages. Eye examinations are bulk billed to Medicare. We are also a provider for Veteran Affairs cardholders. Latest technology including digital retinal photography is included in the eye examination. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging is available to evaluate retinal disease and optic nerve disorders. An assessment of vision and visual tasks will be performed. The health of your eyes will be thoroughly examined to check for any current or future risk of eye conditions or diseases. Computerised visual field analysis and colour vision assessment is also available. Sore, red eyes are able to be treated as Brad is an ophthalmic medicines prescriber.
