😌💬 Helping Little People with Big Feelings
Did you know that Paediatric Occupational Therapists don’t just support physical skills — they also play a big role in helping children understand and navigate their emotions? 💛
Emotional regulation is a key part of a child’s ability to participate in daily life — at school, at home, and in the community.
Our OTs work with children to:
🧠 Understand and name their feelings
🧘♀️ Develop calming strategies (like deep breathing, sensory tools, or movement breaks)
💬 Learn to express emotions in healthy ways (e.g. using words, visuals, or body language)
🌈 Build resilience and confidence
🧸 Identify triggers and early warning signs of overwhelm
🎯 Improve focus and attention through regulation techniques
🤝 Strengthen social skills like turn-taking, problem-solving, and empathy
🎨 Explore creative outlets for expressing big emotions (like drawing, role-play, or storytelling)
🔄 Learn routines and tools for managing transitions and change
💡 Recognise body signals like hunger, tiredness, or the need for movement (interoceptive awareness)
And much more
Using play-based, sensory, and individualised approaches, we help kids build the tools they need to stay regulated, focused, and connected to the world around them.
Because when children feel safe and supported, they’re better able to grow, learn, and thrive 💙
