Directions provides relationship-based, personalised and individually tailored support to nearly 400 people across Perth from Butler to Pinjarra. We have an excellent reputation for providing high quality support that is flexible, creative and inclusive. Our staff and volunteers are an exceptional group of people who build strong relationships with the people that we support and their families, and thrive on sharing their lives. We provide opportunities for people to participate in family and community activities of their choice that: encourage lifelong learning; lead to increased independence; promote friendships; and enable people to actively contribute to their community. On Saturday 10th May, Directions Support Worker Gloria Heuvink was nominated for the Inclusion Communities Award at the WA Disability Support Awards 2025.

Gloria was recognised for her tireless advocacy for Directions' clients who use Leisure World in Thornlie. Gloria was compelled to speak up when she noticed that accessible toilets were mostly being utilised by people who didn't need them, leaving vulnerable people waiting up to 45 minutes to access toilets to change out of wet clothes following laps and hydrotherapy sessions in the pools.

After several meetings with Centre management, locks were installed on the changerooms, with keys available from the front desk.

Despite how long it took for this solution to be implemented, Gloria remained passionate about the cause with professionalism and understanding that real change takes time.

On the night of the awards dinner, the Hon. Hannah Beazley MLA Minister for Disability Services, spoke with Gloria about her nomination and congratulated her on her efforts
